Seems it isn't optional if you don't want an avatar? At least I couldn't seem to get rid of it in my profile settings.

Not a huge deal, just seems silly to me. Took me a bit to realize others had their initial there on their posts.

Thanks,

Russ

The initial is the default if you don't have an avatar.  That's the way a lot of boards do it...   almost a standard today

LOL! It reminds me of one of those people figures that Fisher Price had in kids toys back in the 70's.

One of applications I use at work has a similar avatar for the default...about 1/2 the users change their pic, and the rest show up as these 'generic resource units'...

Can someone tell me where I can find the directions to install an avatar?

When you're logged in, just click on your avatar (initial in this case) and the page that pops up will have a bigger version of the avatar next to your user name, on the left of the screen.

In the lower left-hand corner of that, there's a little box.

Mouse-over it and it says "profile photo". Click that and you'll be taken to a page that gives you upload options.

It's self explanatory from there.

NOTE: You can upload pix from just about anywhere, even directly from your hard-drive, but the upper limit for an avatar is 0.24 MB

If the image you try to upload exceeds that size, you'll get bumped and will need to pick something else smaller.

After bantering here yesterday, I noticed today at work that Yammer does the same thing.

Hey Rob, your new avatar makes you look like a wookie!

Graphic artist that I am, I engineered my avatar to fit into the prior square format. Would be great if an option was available to go back to that instead of us being forced into the circle fad of Facebook / Twitter & whoever else jumped on that bandwagon.
