LouO Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Been modeling quietly, and sitting silent on the sidelines for a while, but figured I'd jump in and join the fun of the CBR 2018. Going sleeper style with modified Mustang SVO goodies in/under a Pinto wagon. Edited January 11, 2018 by LouO misspelling

Cpt Tuttle Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Honda A-series engine (80s Prelude) and a bit of imagineering with the Mini gearbox in sump arrangement. An oddball of an engine but seems like it can cope well with boost up to at least around 250 hp. That's enough in a Mini. Painted it green as a homage to the classic BMC A-series though. The stock front subframe and engine bay didn't fit very well to the new engine so I decided to build everything new from the firewall and forward.
Cpt Tuttle Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) I felt like I wanted to upgrade the front suspension to a more conventional type so I started building some struts for it. It's a combination of Honda and Porsche parts. Porsche control arm and lower part of the strut, Honda brakes and upper part of the strut.I wanted something bigger than 10" wheels but finding something still tiny enough to fit a Mini was hard. Finally I found the solution, wheels from the Fujimi VW Golf mk1 was filed down a bit and the tyres from the Mini kit stretched over. Seems like it will work. I felt like I could as well build a flipnose if I was going to build a completely new front end anyway. Edited January 13, 2018 by Cpt Tuttle

I wish I had the patience and ability to drill those... They are steel wheels from Asuka 1999. They are pretty cool as you can select two depths. They only come in four lug though.

One question ... how many wheels are there in a package? only two? and, these are the 1:1 wheels ... 4 lug is perfect, ordering ..
Erik Smith Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 They do look pretty close, Mike. They come with four wheels. There are four “base” wheels, four deep rings, four shallow rings, extra lug nuts, center caps, little plastic plug things and a couple clipboards.
Cpt Tuttle Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I had to do some cutting of the floorpan since the limited space under the hood requires remote mounted radiator and turbo. Though since I am planning a conversion to coilovers in the rear and doesn't need the weird rubber spring elements the Mini are using, this will probably be OK. I am thinking about having a beam between the rear shock mounts to beef things up instead. Also I painted the floorpan a rear sleeper color that the body will get later - brown with satin clearcoat. Though I wanted the engine bay and frame rails to be black, so black it is. Don't ask me why, I just wanted it this way......
426 pack Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Here’s an update for me on the peterbiult. I got the intake built and shortened the frame. I was also playing around with the skyline and built a exhaust manifold and turbo setup. I made the BIGGEST mistake I could though today......... just for fun I mocked up a V8 in it and now I might want to biuld it with a V8. So I mock up a Shelby cobra with the skyline motor and I don’t minde it so I will do some thinking and if it’s ok I might change.
426 pack Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 It wouldn’t let me add pics of the cobra in the other comment above
zenrat Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Initial new year burst of enthusiasm has struck and i've got started. Bugatti Royale at the beginning by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr Work on the DOHC cylinder head has commenced. Cam drive is motorcycle style by chain from between cylinders 4 and 5. Combustion chambers will be hemispherical with centre plugs. Yes, it will be a 12.7 litre straight eight DOHC Hemi...
Cpt Tuttle Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 One thing is for sure, beating you in having the most wicked engine will be hard.
Jantrix Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 I did get some bench time this past weekend, but not a lot. I was able to get the bumper mounts from the '37 Ford ready to mount to the chassis and the body modified to allow the bumpers. They aren't a perfect fit but they are pretty darn close. Pics soon.
da_ashman Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 (edited) I'm totally in on this, guess i should as it spawned off my 4cyl idea. For this years build, I've enlisted/succonded/detained/blackmailed a couple of Russian blokes to help me piece the car today, Meet Sergei Fedorov & Alexei Ovechkin (bonus points to anyone who guesses whom they really are...but dont tell Customs...) I had my own plans of a hybrid Camaro or Spoon S2000 but the Soviets reckon they've found the perfect car. Enter their find on Craigslist.... Might need a bit of work. Its a Nissan S13 Silvia imported from Japan some years ago & left in a bush. Sergei got stuck in & striped it back to bare metal (plastic) after it arrived in the workshop, (now the garden bin needs collecting...) They were a little disappointed once they popped the hood to discover there was no engine, Sergei suggested an LSX V8 swap, but Alexei said leave it to him, hes headed off to craigslist to acquire some more parts & get stuck in. Hopefully the boys will be back at it shortly, they've got a plan. a mad wild plan that requires alot of work. Stay tuned.... Ash Edited January 15, 2018 by da_ashman

I had to check from the box top picture that is it even 1/24 or 1/25 scale. Looks like I'll need to play with the pulleys on my Supercharged Chevy Stovebolt to get more boost on it in order to beat that monster. Edited January 16, 2018 by W-409

Yup you guess it, Alex / Alexander didnt sound very Russian so I went with Alexei which is pretty much the same thing anyway. Both play /ed for the Washington Capitals. The boys have been busy getting together most of the parts, still a few more things to get. A damaged & scrapped Nissan R32 Group N racecar has been acquired as a parts donor, the Silvia will be powered by the mighty RB26DETT engine, once we stuff it into the non existent engine bay. Wheels are from a leftover C1 Models RWB kit, believe they are 18" Work SP1s running the kits tires. A whole bunch of parts box pieces While the boys were at it trying to find replacement front & rear bumpers they found a body kit to suit the Silvia, so a knock-off el-cheapo one was purchased instead... The Rasty bodykit will definetly add some character plus width & allow wider tires to be used. Mocking up the pieces Missing from their package was the rear bumper & spoiler, Sergei is on hold with the UPS man, hopefully it'll turn up... While the boys had a bit of downtime & a few Vodkas later they decided to name the beast. Introducing the 'Union Soviet Silvia Rasty' or Soviet Silvia for short. More to come soon. Ash
