landman Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) The kit's boom is likely based on this. I cobbled Mark's Manley with the kit's boom. This is the setup I'll use to wind the cable after painting. Edited October 26, 2020 by landman
mchook Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 That looks great! The only thing I would change is the crank handle should be on the other side. That way you can release the gear to drop the cable.

Aaronw Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 This is looking really nice. I'm just getting back to this kit myself. I started it a couple of years ago and then life had other plans. I cobbled the kit boom into something resembling the light duty boom you posted above, but I'm just doing it as a light duty wrecker with (most likely) the kit wheels, and definitely not duals in the back. The heavier boom you are doing looks more appropriate with the wheels you are using.
landman Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 (edited) Wrecker crane is pretty well done. I've been practising my woodgraining on the underside of the deck Looks like I have a long ways to go yet. Edited October 26, 2020 by landman
landman Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) Made a "steel" plate to mount the crane to the deck. Edited October 26, 2020 by landman
landman Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) One thing leads to another. Since I don't have a spare tire to match the truck's wheels I decided to use the well and stand to locate the boosting battery and its cables. Those pliers will become the clamps. And, since the cables will be permanently attached to the battery, I had to come up with a shutoff switch on one of them. I made the cables about 8 feet, they should be long enough to reach most applications yet still manageable. Edited October 26, 2020 by landman
1930fordpickup Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 This sure is looking good. Good idea with the Battery.
landman Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) Cut up the pill bottle I was using to store my toothpicks & micro brushes. The halves will become fenders. Edited October 26, 2020 by landman
