200mph+ Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Almost finished. Here is a shot of the completed front clip.
200mph+ Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 In short........... I rushed it, didn't test fit last minute mods.........and had to walk away from it for a few days. Check out the big gaps inside and out. Good thing is, so far the fix has been easy.
Raul_Perez Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 (edited) Mark, I'll send you a PM with my home address. I've already made room for this little jewel in my display case!! The details are looking GREAT!! Don't forget to add the Moon air pump to pressurize the fuel tank on that old gasser!!! A lot of the old AMT kits have them included on the chrome tree...they look like a fire extinguisher, but they have a "T" handle on the top. My friend Bernard clued me into this little tip on old gasers a few months back. Later, Edited August 26, 2008 by Raul_Perez
Terror Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Your work is over the top man,the engine looks veryveryvery nice.Put a drop of fuel in it see if it fires up man, I bet it does.!
200mph+ Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Thanks Guys! And a big thanks for the tip on the pressure pump Raul. I made one up today and it really sets off the tank. Got the body/ trunk fit problems (those gaps) taken care of. I hope to have her back together and finished up in a few days.

You're doing an awesome job on all of the details!! Later,
Olle F Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Wow, that's beautiful! I just love the details, and this is great inspiration for the Corvette gasser I'm working on. And Raul: Thanks for revealing one of life's great mysteries. I have always been wondering about that funky looking "fire extinguisher" you find in some kits, and that's definitely a great detail to add!
Raul_Perez Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) ...And Raul: Thanks for revealing one of life's great mysteries. I have always been wondering about that funky looking "fire extinguisher" you find in some kits, and that's definitely a great detail to add! Actually, my friend Bernard, (GBK1 on the forum), is who made me aware of what it was and what it was used for. I had sent him some miscellaneous parts for a model he was building, also thinking that the pump was a fire extinguisher. He replied, stating how happy he was that I sent him the air pump, but I had no idea what he was talking about. Once he described it to me over the phone, I knew what part he was referring to. I've since found about ten more of them in my parts box. As I recall, they're in the AMT '29 Ford Roadster kit and the AMT '37 Chevy kits. The really funny thing is that the instructions on several of the AMT kits also call it a fire extinguisher! If you look on eBay, you'll sometimes find examples of dash and tank mounted Eelco brand air pumps for the old fuel tanks. Later, Edited August 26, 2008 by Raul_Perez
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Like Rual said earlier WOW I wish my eyes were that good. Exelent detail on the engine. I just tried the fuel lines on an injected hemi (scraped that idea) The whole car looks great. Waiting for the finish.

Willy Survive Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Wow!!! Great gasser. I've been watching this build for a while and I've never seen a nicer or more accurate gasser. Great job. What is the little yellow decal under the Champion logo on the firewall? I've never seen it before and it looks like an interesting decal. What kit did it come in? Gave me tons of ideas for my 54 Chevy Panel Wagon. Thanks for sharing this amazing build. -Will
Eeyore Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Brilliant! Great to see it finished, and to such an excellent standard
200mph+ Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Wow! Thanks guys! Raul, many thanks buddy, you were a tremendous help. Will, the decal in question is from Slixx "Nostalgic Drag Sheet 2" sheet #NDCS2/1543. (The decal says "Shane, speed and power equipment"............well, I think its Shane) This is just one of many really cool nostalgic "stckers" on this sheet.

Raul_Perez Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 ...Raul, many thanks buddy, you were a tremendous help... I was glad to help, but I only provided you with the reference photos. You're the one who created an excellent scale replica from those images. The detail work that you put into this build exemplifies what can be done when someone with tremendous talent, vision and the necessary resources applies their self. Keep up the GREAT work and thanks for sharing this build with all of us!! So, what's next on the build list?!
mytricia Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 a killer project-one question.i would love to try valve stems on my kits! is there an article or something so i can try it? keep up the great work
Draggon Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Pro Tech offers machined valve stems. I went the cheap route and stretched some sprue over a candle, painted it black, drilled holes in the rims, and superglued the sprue in place from the back. I put a touch of silver on the tip to simulated a valve stem cap. Its a really simple operation that adds quite a lot to the overall look.
