Joe Handley
Is there anything out there for the 1/16 MPC Firebirds in resin or 3d printed? I've already picked up the '79 at Hobby Lobby a couple weeks back and have been thinking about the '82? Firebird kits too. Kinda want to go more of a ProTouring/Street Fighter look with them.......although if there was a K.I.T.T. conversion for the 3rd gen........................... CapSat 6
I got a Tremec 5 speed from Shapeways in 1:16 with the Firebird kit in mind...also, some shifters, seats, carbs, EFI throttle bodies, other things are available there, right up to SB and BB Chevy engines if you are so inclined. Not much at all in regards to wheels and tires though...
CapSat 6
Also, you might get part of the way with getting an old AMT 1/16 Pontiac Grand Prix stock car (Petty or Lake Speed / Nationwide) kit. You could use the wheels, shifter, some other bits from that kit in a street build. Sometimes those kits come up relatively cheaply on the auction site, especially as builds or partial builts, although the parts in those kits are not especially detailed... Can-Con
If you're looking for the larger diameter "pro touring" style wheels I'd suggest looking at some of the larger scale die-casts. Some of them have huge wheels but the scale difference between the 1/16 and 1/18 diecasts might get you some wheels in a good size for the 1/16 scale kits. To be honest, I like the kit snowflake wheels as well as the disk wheels from the anniversary kit and wondered if there might be some way to get a tire and barrel then place the stock rim face in the center of it, kinda like some of the 20"+ lowrider wheels where it was the normal "Dayton" style wire wheel in the "23in" barrel. Joe Handley
I like that, a whole lot! After watching the Leno's Garage with one of the surviving K.I.T.T. Firebirds from Knight Rider, I want to do a ProTouring-ish K.I.T.T. now too........ended up buying a a second one at Michael's this afternoon So that will make for a Lead Sled-ish Lincoln Futura, a Dark Knight themed ProTouring '66 Batmobile, and now a ProTouring K.I.T.T., a Street Hawk and a Happy Birthday General Lee inspired '69 Chargers (both black, the former with Turbines and antenna, the latter in black with capless steelies), think I need help....................
