35 year old refurbished Kenworth

Hi all, first time on this forum, been watching for a few months and thinking about signing up, done it now, just bear with me while I get up to speed, bit of a dinosaur.

Finished refurbishing this 35/40 year old AMT Kenworth just after xmas for the second time, I half did it about 4 years ago but this time I treated it to some new exhausts from KFS and scratch built a new bumper and bars, I also raised the cab a little and built some new rear mudguards to bring it up to a more European spec, there are a few more extra's like rear lights and air lines, the cab interior I had to leave as built the first time around as I couldn't access it again and the roof rack is a rebuild of the original.

 It is so long ago since I first built this model that I can not remember exactly which AMT kit it was, it has survived four house moves and numerous small collisions over its life and is still with us, Kenworth built to last eh!

Hi, thanks for the comments, I did take some photo's of the yard as I was building it (its not finished yet) but I seem to have deleted them from the lap top, I will take some more when it nearer been finished, there is not much more to it than what is in the photo's, its really just a back drop for photographing the models, it will be a while before I get round to working on it again as I don't get much modeling time through the summer, plus I am spending the little modeling time that I do get on another tractor unit.

 I have found another photo of the K100 from a different angle, it show a bit more of the buildings I think

Cool build. An English KW? I'd love to see one of those running over there beside all the new DAFs, Volvos and Scania single drives. Nice work.

We had a few back in the 80s mainly on specialist work but they didn't really catch on unfortunately, I think a haulage company in the Sheffield area had around 6 but don't quote me on that, I remember talking to one of the drivers one afternoon in a service area on the M1 he was as happy as a dog with two tails and he wouldn't have swapped it for anything else on the road at that time, pity they couldn't have imported Australian built right hand drive Kenworths, maybe they would have made more inroads into the British market, who knows?

 The ones that were here were the standard sleeper I don't think there were any with the 100" cab but I could be wrong again. I don't know what happened to them, maybe one or two them have been restored, hope so anyway.

It looks like you converted an amt K100 Aerodyne into a flat top. Very nice work on this build.

Like the 70s early 80s look of a typical english long distance lorry sporting its "T.I.R."  blue plate!

Remember seeing a few RARE (3 axles but very short) 70s early 80s COE KWs on the roads, when traveling to UK back in 80s

Nice European touch on this old KW. I´d have shivers driving this big rig with the steering  wheel on the wrong side.
