Badluck 13 Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Say what you will about the man, think what you want to think about him.....BUT to me and especially my Baby Girl he is and always will be the greatest ever.....my daughter has been a huge ,HUGE fan of John Force even to the point she is a die hard blue blood pumpin' Ford fan,she still followed him when Ford got stupid and Chevrolet took him on,Heck she has even said if he was younger and she was older she would give Lori a run for her money lol...... The story goes ...we got 2 passes to Summit's Norwalk raceway for this past Friday compliments of DSR/NAPA hospitality quest and when we just turned into the tracks parking area Bev started to tear up and she said "I am about to cry because I know John Force is out there somewhere and I finally get to be in the same place as him" (she has never seen a funny car event or John Force for that matter in person).....I explained to her that there is a good chance you will not get up close to him if at all and she said "it don't matter as long as I get to see him run and I am on the same ground as him"....so we walk around find his trailer and proceeded to watch the crew wrench away and it was getting close to time to head to Capps trailer for the dinner and meet and we started to walk away when Bev said "OHHHH MY God is that who I think it is..IT IS!! IT IS!!" out came John to work with the crew and Bev asked if we could stay longer and I said "We got allllll day Baby Girl,as long as you like"....well the video show the rest minus the part where he takes off the hat on his head and signs it and puts it on her head....If you listen you can hear her crying from the excitement and you hear John ask her "What's wrong?" and she answers "You're my idol" he takes her phone from her and the rest is history and a moment of her dreams come true......This is one happy and trilled dad for sure..... received_1726339864086797.mp4
Bobdude Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 It doesn't appear he will ever forget where he came from and just how much he appreciates his fans.
Jim N Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Great story! It's moments like this that make it all worthwhile. One point though, GM had Force before Ford. Force wanted to expand his team and GM would not give him the funding. Ford did.
smhardesty Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 I'm not a fan of current Top Fuel and Funny Car drag racing, but Force was around when it was still "old school" racing. The fact that he's still active at age 69 and still as common and humble as he is speaks volumes about him as a man. 16 NHRA championships is pretty much all you need to know about his dedication to the sport, as well. Glad your daughter got to get up close and personal with her hero. And even more glad he took the time to give her a video and photos to remember the event by. Tell her there are lots of us guys out here that think John Force is a pretty good choice for a hero.
Renegade Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Been a John Force fan before he ever started winning championships. Would love to meet him, Ashley, Brittany, Courtney and Lori. Seems like a real down to earth guy. Wish they would bring Driving Force back.
espo Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 You'll not hear a bad word about John Force from me. From what I have seen this is his normal manor of dealing with fans.
NYLIBUD Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Yea I met John at two national events.I had him sign my large NHRA flag, and a John Force picture, like in the video.I'am definitely a huge John Force fan, ever since I got into drag racing back in the 80s.He seems like he would be a riot to hang out with, and maybe have a few beers,or no beers, either way
OldTrucker Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I have met him several times and he is the real deal just the man you see here! First time I met him was in the days when his crew would give back their paychecks to help get to the next race! How's that for a dedicated crew! Says a lot about the man. Seen him take time a lot for the kids that would be there too! Definitely from the "old school" or racers!
1972coronet Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I can attest to how cool Force is ; one heck of a nice guy , with a good vibe . I worked for the dealership which sponsored him many years ago ( Don Steves Chevrolet ) , and Force would be a somewhat regular fixture . He was always quick to greet everyone and at least say hello . Even when Force switched to Ford ( c.1997 ) , he still acknowledged Don Steves Chevrolet via a decal on the lower-front fascia of his car .
majel Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Most all of the NHRA drivers are very approachable and friendly. My daughter had a similar experience with Frank Pedregon back in the day, and my wife got to meet Ron Capps and talk to him. Having gone to many NHRA and NASCAR events i much prefer the way NHRA handles the interaction between fans and drivers. Most NASCAR drivers come off as primadonnas!
1930fordpickup Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 One more reason to like the guy. Good for your daughter to see how humble you can be.
espo Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Just read an article about the passing of Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen in Auto Week magazine. In the article they had talked to John Force about their relationship and John talked about how close they were and how much he appreciated his guidance thru the years. Again John showing what a respectful person he is.
