Justin Porter Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 This is one of those kits that you really just wish had stayed in production rather than only getting two(!) runs of the tooling nearly a decade apart. Still, the engraving and the fit is incredible and I was glad to get a good deal to finally put this one on my pile. So far I've been using primarily Vallejo Model Air and Model Color, with some Tamiya paint as well. Loving the results to be sure!
iamsuperdan Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 You have the engine details nailed! Looks great!
Justin Porter Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 Thanks for the encouragement guys. Here's the progress from last night. At this point I just have the paintwork to do on the body, trim, and finishing off the interior. This kit goes together incredibly well.
mrmike Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Looks great! I just finished one of these a few months ago. Plan on using strips of Bare Metal Foil in place of the kit supplied metal strips. They won't stick at all!
Dann Tier Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Model Master clearcoat works great for attaching things that have lost their stick, as does watered down canopy glue ( NOT white glue).
Justin Porter Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 The interior, sans the steering wheel and steering column, is completely finished. It's painted in Tamiya Buff with a rubbed wash of Tamiya brown panel liner that helped give a bit of an "aged leather" look on the seats. The kit wood panel decals on the dash and the door panels actually turned out pretty well with just a bit of MicroSol. The body has three coats of Tamiya Gloss Aluminum and one coat of Testors One Coat Wet Look clear. It's looking great and once it fully gasses out and I can do a bit of polishing it's going to look fantastic. There's still a lot of brightwork left to do and the glass, but it's in the home stretch!
Dann Tier Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 STUNNING!!...this kit has some of THE BEST wire wheels in it!!
Anglia105E Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 This is a brilliant kit that you are building Justin, one of the best that Tamiya have ever done, if not the best. Also, your choice of Tamiya gloss aluminium is absolutely right for this car. The fit of the parts is incredible, some of them barely need glue, and the wheels for this Jaguar are by far the best wire spoked wheels you can get anywhere. These are exactly the same wheels as on the Tamiya Morgan 4/4. I have built one of these Tamiya Jaguar MK II kits and I enjoyed converting it to a 1955 MK I version with spats over the rear wheels. Used Halfords rattle can gold for the paint job. I do have one more unbuilt Tamiya Jaguar MK II in the box..... and seeing your build going so well has made me want to get this one started! David
Justin Porter Posted August 29, 2018 Author Posted August 29, 2018 So we're down the home stretch with the Jag. Clearcoat was rubbed out with The Treatment and the window trim was done with Molotow. Glass is all in, interior and engine bay is done, and now there's just a few more chrome bits, the number plates, and the metal transfers to add. I can't say how enjoyable this kit is or how pleased I am with the results so far!
