Oh man I remember seeing it in a theater in first run.

And I remember how I first heard of the movie: Ed Sullivan showed some of the chase scene footage. I don't remember what the premise was for that. McQueen in the audience, perhaps? I don't remember WHY Bullitt was plugged on The Ed Sullivan Show, but I distinctly remembered that it WAS.

For anyone who hasn't had an opportunity to see this movie on the big screen you really must. I'm sure many have seen it on TV and that's great but it's not them same thing. Car chase movies were becoming popular when this film was made. There were some good ones but most were B grade at best. The only others that came close were The French Connection, 7 Up and very few others. Steve McQueen did his own driving and the "Baddy" in the Charger was a well known stunt driver at the time. When the production company got San Fran. to sign off on the street scenes the city never realized what was about to take place. I understand that later the debris hit the fan when they found out about some of the stunts.

I was not old enough to have seen this at a theater. I am not sure that I have ever watched any part other than the chase  on youtube.  Growing up with 11 kids in the family we never got out of the house except for family reunions. LOL

I got a little scared when I first read the thread title. My first thought? "Oh snap, they're remaking Bullitt!"

And I already found myself getting annoyed.

A 50th anniversary reissue though? I can get behind that.

Although...Blu-ray and my couch will be more comfortable. :P

The scene where the bad guy in the Charger is looking for the Mustang, and then he looks in his rear view mirror. It's on baby, fasten your seat belt.

One of the local theaters here has recliners, very nice.  Well I just checked and they are not showing it there. A good 45 minutes away is the closest. Bummer.

Same story here, and only 2PM and 7PM shows on the 7th and 9th. Guess I'll just have to pop the tape in again.

Bullitt, like Kelly's Heroes, is a great movie to watch to spot all the future stars and familiar-faced character actors in supporting roles. Just off the top of my head, I can recall:

Jacqueline Bisset

Robert Vaughn

Robert Duvall

Norman Fell (Mr. Roper)

Simon Oakland (you've seen him a million times; I think of him as the General on Black Sheep Squadron)

Don Gordon (another face you've seen a million times)

Justin Tarr (Rat Patrol)

...and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple other notables.

I remember seeing that movie in the theater when I was a kid. The chase scene had you stepping on an imaginary brake pedal. It's still an awesome chase scene and a good movie overall. I have my own copy on DVD.

Here's the "other" star of the movie..... Yes folks, it's the genuine article that was shown this year at the Mustang Memories show at the Ford World Headquarters......:)

I do apologise for the crappy cellphone pictures...... :(
