NYLIBUD Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 GOD bless the United States on this dark day in American history..It amazes me that it's been 17 years since 9/11.May all those who perished, rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.

Tom Geiger Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought about it all day. Amen
NYLIBUD Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 And like the Kennedy assassination, everybody remembers where they were on 9/11,and who,if anybody, they were with.I was getting dressed for work, when bam the planes hit the towers. At first I had no idea what I was watching, but then it became clear.I flew out to work.At the time I worked for the county,so all government buildings were on lockdown. We all watched the tvs in the office. And slowly people just started quietly leaving..No work was done on that day..It was just a BAD day..
cowboy rich Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Exactly Ron, I'm not government employed but the construction site I was on shut down completely and everyone went home to be with family and friends, still remember the look on a lot of those faces. Very sad day. Thanks to ALL THAT SERVED PRIOR AND THE ONES DOING IT NOW!
Jim N Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 The one thing that I will never forget, since I live in fly over country was the large number of contrails in the sky all day long. Commercial aviation was grounded, so that was all military air traffic. That changed my perspective on many things in one short day.
Lizard Racing Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Some people have compared 9/11 to the Pearl Harbor attack. But they were different. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor had the intent of neutralizing our Pacific Fleet. A military aim. The 9/11 attacks had the intent of killing the most people possible. A terrorist aim. The only crime or offence those who died committed was to show up for work that day.

I lived in New Jersey, across the bay from NYC. We were in the flight path of all the major airports. There was never a time when you'd look up at night and there wasn't a dozen planes in the air. You could follow the landing formation into Newark from my house. After 9-11 the sky was empty and silent. The other thing was that the smell was awful, even in Central NJ. It smelled like there was a raging electrical fire on your street. That lasted better than a week, maybe two. Living in bedroom communities to NYC, we knew people who died that day. There were friends, and people we knew from town. Relatives who had close calls, my wife's brother was in a subway headed to that station from NJ and was turned back. Three wives from my model club, thankfully all escaped. Two of my kids friends, lost fathers that day. An awful day for America! Edited September 15, 2018 by Tom Geiger
