Hoffman Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 This is the AMT '55 Nomad, sectioned, doors opened, custom scratch-built chassis, Buttera suspension, 409 engine. Part of my 'Club 409' series from the '80's.
Dave Darby Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 That's a real nice! Concept and execution flow together nicely.
espo Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 Some very nice design elements. The body almost looks like it is sectioned. I like the flow of the rear bumpers as part of the body. The chassis looks perfect and well detailed.

I took out a slice between the top of the wheel opening in the fender, and the character line above that extending back from the headlight. The cut went all the way back, above the rear wheel opening as well. That's the horizontal cut. Vertically, I cut straight up just in front of the front wheel opening and just behind the rear wheel opening. So basically I raised the wheel openings and the rocker panel, but I kept the height of the body intact at the overhangs in the front and rear. The front overhang is actually a little taller than stock. I cut a bumper filler panel off a second Nomad, flipped it upside down and joined it to the front of this car to make kind of an air dam. The body is a little lumpy these days from the 32 year old filler shrinking over time, but it still looks ok. Glad you like it, and thanks for looking.
Spex84 Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 I really dig this! Cool concept and well thought-out execution. Is that air cleaner from the AMT '53 Ford? It matches the finned 409 valve covers nicely. The Buttera suspension looks right at home, and the custom-fabbed frame and floors are very effective. I like the exhaust routing too, very clean. The wheels look like Ferrari and give it a tough, high-end appearance. very nice! This is probably a good time to bring this model back out of hiding; the 80s-90s look is gaining traction again in other areas (if not street rodding) and people are recognizing the merits of the style again. Kinda makes me want to build a monochrome rod with centerlines and slatted headlight covers, haha. Blasphemy!

The tri-power carbs and intake under it were adapted from the AMT '63 Corvette 427. The valve covers are from the AMT '57 Chevy "Pepper Shaker" kit that included a 409 with a 4-speed. Glad you liked it. I was afraid it would seem so dated now that everyone would barf! Lot's of super kind, thoughtful comments from you guys. THANK YOU!!
