426 pack
Dose anyone have any pictures of the under side of the Sox and Martin 70 cuda? Edited November 30, 2018 by 426 pack
STYRENE-SURFER
Somehow I remember the underside body being white, but after just googling again can't find a sprig of information. Wish I could help, got an old Jo-Han Sox & Martin kit (unfortunately moulded in green)kit that I may put together someday. It's one of those legendary drag cars I never grow tired of. maltsr
I have this photo on file, not sure if it's the '70 car though. According to Jim Schild's book, they were given a 'body-in-white' for 1970 which was used as the race car. This is the current restored version of the car ( not sure if its the 70 or 71 ) Be very cautious using modern pictures of cars for vintage references. That said, Im afraid I cant answer the op with any certainty on my end . And I have a boatload of S+M pictures but nuttin of the bottom side

426 pack
Thanks guys this gives me a general idea of the colours they used. I have another question though. After looking at different pictures on google I have noticed that there are some pics with chrome bumper and some with red bumpers and the tail light areas are different colours. Do any of you guys know what is correct? New restored version has red bumpers Chrome front bumper red front and rear bumper Chrome front and rear bumper and white tail light area. Chrome front and red rear with red tail light area Two different ones one with chrome and one red rear bumper with red tail light area

Possibly... seems a lot of people assume that all the sub rails should be black, or get the rear right and still paint the fronts black, as if it's a GM F-body with a removable subframe. Should be the K member and trans mount only, as shown in the photo above.

I believe the original first version would have chromed bumpers, white rear cove, and CLEAR headlights. Any of these old race cars is a "moving target." For a 100% accurate model, you have to take a page from the Model Airplane World book and model it as it looked on some particular day. mredjr
Dean Sox [Ronnie's Son] is a customer of mine and he has just finished building a 68 Barracuda that looks just like his dads. He put on the hood scoop the Boss is back. I will find out what color he used he told me when he was having it built it was going to the same color. The car has a hemi in it that was in one of the old Sox & martin cars.
Force
The picture of the underside is of the restored 1970 car but the restored 1971 car looks pretty much the same. Sox & Martin had a couple of cars at the same time, match race cars and cars for the different sanctioning bodies (NHRA, AHRA) and they are slightly different. Two of the 1970 cars had number Pro 200 with chromed bumpers and Pro 705 with red bumpers and they are the most common in pictures, they used some other numbers as well, 556 with chromed bumpers and 333 with red bumpers (and spoilers) are two of them, I have also seen a couple of pictures where the Pro 200 number was on a car with red rear bumper and tail panel and a front and deck lid spoiler, the front bumper was chrome in one picture and red in another. The numbers used on the 1971 'Cudas was Pro 4 for Ronnie and Pro 44 for Herb McCandless, but I have also seen a couple pictures with Pro 200 on a 1971 car. I would go with white underside and black rear axle and K-member, blue engine (Jake King painted all engines he built for S&M Ford Engine Blue). Agreed 100% Keep in mind ,,,These cars changed pretty much from race to race. So narrowing one car down to one race will be a little tough
