tom q vaxy Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 any suggestion on the correct adhesive? i'm leaning to double-side carpet tape.

If so (also not clear to me what "not" water color paper means), use the thinner vinyl flooring tape. It's thinner than carpet tape, doesn't have the fiber reinforcement built into the tape, and is clear:
tom q vaxy Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Surface Mold-made and machine-made watercolor papers come in three surfaces: rough, hot-pressed (HP), and cold-pressed (CP or NOT, as in "not hot-pressed"). Cold-pressed watercolor paper has a slightly textured surface, somewhere in between rough and hot-pressed paper. It is the paper used most often by watercolor artists because it is good for both large areas of wash, as well as fine detail. from here: https://www.thoughtco.com/how-to-choose-a-watercolor-paper-2573985 I was just what I had on hand.
Casey Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 You're trying to bond cold-pressed watercolor paper to sheet styrene. Is thickness of the final product a factor? As in, do the sheet styrene and watercolor paper need to end up as close to a scale thickness as possible., or will the thickness be hidden? Which scale are you building in or better yet, what specifically are you doing with these two materials together? A tonneau bed cover, interior upholstery, or something else?

tom q vaxy Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 I ended up using 3M transfer tape. (had a roll in the drawer & saved me a trip to get something dedicated). https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Adhesive-Transfer-Tape-9473PC/?N=5002385+3293240976&rt=rud
espo Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 If you want the image that is on the "water color paper" you might consider scanning the image in your computer, then print it on clear decal sheets to then apply to your model.

MrObsessive Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 ???????????????????? I think I have a pretty good grasp of the English language and I have NO idea what this thread is about! An example, pics, or even a project that you're working on would make a whole lot of sense to figure out exactly what you want.

I'm still working on getting my head around the concept of "adhesing" used as a verb. I fear this may be a form I'm not familiar with, possibly promoted by some who may not be familiar with "adhere" as the verb related to "adhesive". Of course, somewhere along the line, "to give" (as in "I gave something to whatshisname") became "to gift" (as in "I gifted something to whatshisname"...which I think sounds ridiculous), so I'm obviously behind the times. To me, "gifted" means a little more of a big deal was made out of the transfer. But maybe that's just me. I don't normally use the term.
tom q vaxy Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 English is not my first language so I do what I can

MrObsessive Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I'd like to apologize also. It's not always known where someone is from originally, as you have posted in your avatar that you live here in the States. When I was a kid I had a mother that was a REAL STICKLER for one to speak English like they had good sense. She was the type that would stop you in your tracks if you said words wrong, or didn't use the proper verb usage. It would be helpful just the same if you told us what project you're working on. There might be someone among us that's either doing the same, or did this particular thing in the past.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 (edited) Two FYIs: 1) For Tom Q... "adhering" would be the more accepted way to say this. 2) For everybody else... In drafting all letters have 5 unit widths except for TOM Q. VAXY which has six unit widths and W which has 8. Edited December 22, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
BigTallDad Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 1 hour ago, tom q vaxy said: English is not my first language so I do what I can What is your first language? Your profile states "eastern states" as a location (gosh, how vague can you be)...were you born there, or did you come from a different locale? If you are native-born, using the second language excuse is merely that, an excuse. I join some others in asking what you're trying to accomplish, other than bonding some weird paper (not watercolor) to styrene? And, as others have also asked, can you give us an idea of the ultimate part? Are you trying an off-beat approach to a vinyl roof? Or a spray-in pickup truck bed liner? You're not supplying enough information! You're making it very difficult to assist you, and you have some of the very best on this forum trying to do so.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 And honest...we're NOT making fun of you or being mean. We're a friendly bunch, and we really WANT to HELP.
