dodgefever Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 Still creeping along. I've reassembled the dump body, built the engine and started on the interior.
dodgefever Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) I bought some 22" Mack wheels and tyres from Moluminum. They came out almost twice the cost of the kit after shipping and taxes, but hey... I painted the interior and inside the cab green. It's maybe closer to a B model interior green, but it'll get toned down with some weathering powder. Cab exterior, body and wheel spokes will be red. Edited April 3, 2019 by dodgefever
Jimbo8v92 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Looks great man! Really like the dump body...Moluminum might be a lil more than others, but jamie makes some amazing stuff. Ide he makes the best tires and resin wheels out there.
dodgefever Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Oh yeah, it wasn't meant to be a dig at Jamie. He was easy to work with and the parts are great. It was more the add-on costs resulting from the poor exchange rate, shipping and then being clobbered with import tax and a handling charge on top. Robbers!
Jimbo8v92 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Oh dang yeah thats a bummer for sure. I could see having to pay import tax on something large like a car or something, but model car parts is a joke lol...keep up the awsome work tho looks sweet
CRUSADER2 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Its looking good, that tipper body looks sturdy, good luck with the rest of the build.
Sam I Am Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I really like this one. Great work on the cab and save on the box.
dodgefever Posted April 27, 2019 Author Posted April 27, 2019 (edited) End of month update. I painted the wheels and I've modified the chassis to work with them. I discovered the body will have to mount a bit farther back to clear the exhaust, but I can make it work. Edited April 27, 2019 by dodgefever
dodgefever Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 Thank you. I'm aiming for an east coast look, but I'm still tweaking things as I go. I think Jamie's wheels & tyres are miles better than the kit parts, just wish he did 24" ones.
gotnitro? Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Looking good ! Yeah 24s would look awesome under that
dodgefever Posted May 31, 2019 Author Posted May 31, 2019 Not a lot done this month due to work and family stuff, but I'll post some update photos later. I did some more on the interior, got a base coat on the engine, and mounted a hydraulic oil tank to the frame.
dodgefever Posted May 31, 2019 Author Posted May 31, 2019 Here's the frame with the oil tank added. Rough mock up with the body. The body will sit higher when it's mounted properly. I cut new greedy boards from 1/16" basswood, which will be stained and weathered. Pintle plate - still have to make the hitch itself, and yes, I should have done that before I started throwing paint around... Not sure whether to add some tail lights, or stick with the ones on the body.
Vince66 Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 (edited) Dump trucks sometimes also have 2 tail light's and a back up light around the hitch for when their not towing a trailer. Edited June 6, 2019 by NothingAsFineAsaW9
dodgefever Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 Attempted some weathering on the chassis, to knock down the "newness".
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Looks Great! I'm taking notes. I'm fixing to start a dump project myself.
dodgefever Posted June 28, 2019 Author Posted June 28, 2019 Thanks for the comments, they help to keep me motivated... I got some work done on the interior today. I made new shifters from copper wire and mounted them further back than the kit locations, because all my references show them around there. I was planning to mount the kit shift knobs on top, but I seem to have lost those, so it's either make some, or use the spare DM800 ones from the kit.
gatorincebu Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Stu, I really like this project. That dump body is a favorite for me . You did a fine job on the clean up and re-assembly . What did you use to weather the chassis? It looks great ! Be Well Gator
dodgefever Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Thanks, it's my first attempt at using weathering powder. I used the cheap set from Revell, applied as a wash dissolved in diluted Humbrol DecalFix, following the procedure in this video below. As an aside: I've never heard anyone pronounce the 't' in 'moistened' before!
TECHMAN Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Really enjoying the progress on this one!!!! And the "recovery" of the dump bed is Class One!!!! DJ
