Kruzn Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Thought I would share some old builds. These were all built approximately 35+ years ago. A couple I remember the approximate year, but most I do not. First up is a Johan '65 Plymouth Fury that my brother built in 1965. That is the original exterior paint (54 years old!). He had built it box stock. About 35 years ago, I carefully disassembled the model, repainted the interior and added the custom wheels. The side trim had never been painted but lately I've been thinking of foiling it.

Not very good skills then, but it did have a few details that I was experimenting with. The vinyl top was created using self-adhesive woodgrain shelf paper painted flat black. The rear mud guards are actual aluminum to mimic the chrome guards that were popular at the time. This model also has working rear suspension using coil springs from an ink pen. Kruzn Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 This '58 Impala was done mostly stock except for the bar grille and spotlights. All of the trim was painted since I had not yet heard of Bare Metal Foil (or it hadn't been invented yet!). This one was probably built around 1974-76.

Kruzn Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 Not real sure on this road-race '69 Camaro build, but I'm thinking it was done prior to 1989. A ton of body modifications to this one including rolled rear pan, front air dam and fender flares.

It is a replica of her 1:1 '64 Tempest coupe that we had at the time. We no longer have the 1:1, but still have the model. He did a convincing job transforming a GTO into the base model Tempest. He even modified a Chevy straight six to mimic the Pontiac 215 6cyl, and added a bench seat. Side note: We currently have a 1:1 '64 Tempest Custom wagon (see avatar) that I am attempting to replicate in 1/25 scale. I will post that project in the "on the bench" section. Hope you enjoyed my brief photo history of model building. I built a lot of models back in the 60's, but foolishly gave them all to my nephews after I graduated high school in '71. The only two originals that survived were the '67 Firebird and my brother's '65 Fury. I mourn the loss of some of those models that my nephews destroyed. A couple that come to mind are: '69 Plymouth GTX and a Mako Shark gasser (my first attempt at scratchbuilding). Wish I still had those!! Due to recent heart surgery and orders not to work on full-scale stuff for awhile (I have a LOT of projects!), I decided to get back into building some scale stuff. I'm also recently retired, so I hope I can find time to keep working on scale stuff between the bigger projects! Edited January 29, 2019 by Kruzn

Any of them is worth a good cleaning/restoration/freshening, but there's not one of them I'd strip and rebuild! What are those taillights on the 1G Firebird? They wouldn't be the custom "T-Bird" taillights from the original annual AMT '66 Mustang GT fastback, would they? Thanks so much for sharing these with us! I know that Tim Boyd and Tom Geiger and Mark and many others here will enjoy these, too!
