restoman Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Dug this 2+2 out of my gluebomb pile soon after I finished the '70 Bonneville last year. The leftover cargo bed and roof seemed like a decent fit into the '65... Comments always welcome.
Carmak Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Great Idea! looks like it all fits together well.
Bucky Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 My goodness! That's a fine conversion! I never thought of backdating those parts to an older Poncho!
espo Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Great looking conversion. All of the different body/bed parts seem to flow naturally.
geetee66 Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 That's a handsome beast! Very nice idea. I'll be watching this one ?

restoman Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 The first time the chassis sits under the body without needing to prop up the wheels... I robbed the parts bin for a 400 4 speed combo, and modded the console to fit the 4 speed oar. It's not a correct fit but it works for me. Undecided what to do with the cargo area... there are some big ejector pin marks in the woodgrain, so I'll either cover it with something or fill the bed with scuba gear from the '70 Bonneville and whatever else I can cobble together. Comments always welcome.
restoman Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 On the home stretch... Getting that windshield to fit tight while also allowing the interior tub to fit was quite a file-worthy experience.
espo Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 An alternative for the bed floor would be Plastruct diamond plate. I used some for the step plates on a boat trailer. The sheet is thin enough to cut with hd scissors, or cut a line with a #11 blade and it will bend and break.

It looks like a rubber mat, pretty pleased with it, and we had some here in the cupboard.

restoman Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Molotow chrome through the airbrush... The original chrome was whipped, so off came what was left of it. I opened up the headlights and the bumper slots, took care of the mold lines on the sides of the bumper and took some material off where the bumper meets the tire, for a more-gooder fit. Comments always welcome.
