Richard Bartrop Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 That is wild, but what's really great about it is that it's shaped by function rather than fashion. It's a highly overengineered tool for for transporting two people down a road as fast as possible. If the folks at Tamiya or Hasegawa are wondering what to do next, there are far worse choices.

Agreed. That's what drew me to this thing. There are still a few extraneous whiffle-makers the CFD program probably thought were useful and that the stylists just couldn't resist (and that in reality probably have negligible actual effect), but it's remarkably functional-looking overall.
89AKurt Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 That is crazy beautiful. Love the checkerboard carbon-fiber, did he say that was an option? But much like the current F1 cars, that would be a nightmare to build a model of.
Matt Bacon Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 It looks stunning, especially when you start to see how little of it there really is. The outline/footprint seems normal...ish, but then as the camera moves around you realise how much of it is cut away "internally" inside the overall envelope. As for "extraneous whiffle-makers", if Adrian Newey is behind the aero on this beast then I'm pretty sure there's nothing extraneous -- his excellent book "How to Build a Car" tells a tale of constantly pushing against the boundaries of F1 rules for ultimate aerodynamic efficiency in pursuit of tenths of a second... or more specifically in pursuit of a few feet at the first corner. This was always an exercise in what he could do if there were no rules... beyond "be road legal", and the Highway Code has little to say on the matter of aerodynamics. Rear view mirrors and windscreen wipers are another matter, and did you SEE in the video how they'd solved those problems... I can't wait to see Chris Harris rag this one round a track... best, M.
Spex84 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 The Valkyrie looks really neat, but I'm keen to see and hear it driving! Lots of little weird jigs and jaunts in the design, but most of them seem to have a purpose. There's something weapon-like about the car, and it's not just the matte finish. It looks like something out of a sci-fi film. The trick "water-repellent" air filter makes me cringe though. Ever had a rain jacket or a tent start to admit moisture after the coatings have aged and become less effective? I'm sure their tech is far superior to my rainwear, but man oh man will it be expensive if water gets into that engine. Haha!
935k3 Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 This car was designed with help from Redbull Racing who has one of the best aero guys in the world, Adrian Newey. It will be fast.
