Richard Bartrop Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 More vintage fakery. This 1929 Dupont had a flathead straight eight, with a cover to make it look like a OHV.
Flat32 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 When did NASCAR go to fake headlights? Sometimes there's a good reason for fake.

Brian Austin Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Simulated woodgrain on metal dashes in '30s-'40s cars is actually paint. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/classic-cars/a19506337/discovering-the-nearly-lost-art-of-hand-painted-faux-woodgrain/ It's quite an artform for specialist restorers.

That thing would get bounced around like a ping pong ball, and get squashed under a semi before it reached Dublin. Traffic in your area is some pretty serious competition driving. Lol.
Atmobil Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 60s Dodge Sweptline trucks have fake vents in the hoods, this is my 65. (not the best pictures showing it but one can see it)

It sure is. I was at a car show many years ago and stopped to admire the "wood" dashboard on an open car. (Don't remember which car, sorry.) The color was deep and multi-colored with a very complex wood-grain pattern. The car's owner was standing there and told me it was done with paint. I couldn't believe it.

I couldn't believe it. I recall reading that about some particular 30s cars that had painted dashes that looked like wood. Don't recall what marques, though.
Richard Bartrop Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 And some fakes look better than the real thing. Continental Mk II fake spare vs the real spare of a "continental kit"
