alan barton Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I don't know much about Ferraris, Andrew, but I do know when I am seeing some extra fine modelling! Your attention to detail and your tenacity at finding the right components to aid you is remarkable. Cheers Alan
absmiami Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Perth!! Holy cow - not sure if there’s room for you in my Australian fan club - I’ll check - how’s your summer ? I’m learning a lot about Ferraris on the Barchetta - and when I’m done - I still won’t have enough cash for a down payment - alas …

absmiami Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 I checked carefully - actually Mr Barton - you ARE the Australian fan club ! Tame Impala or Midnight Oil ??
alan barton Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) There's probably more, Andrew, but that's the problem with Aussies, we're so shy and reserved! Yeah, right! Definitely Midnight Oil! Edited December 11, 2021 by alan barton
absmiami Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Correct answer …. saw them 8 ? Years ago on their North American tour ….

alan barton Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Sir Jack Brabham, absolutely! Ex speedway driver ( dirt track is my favourite motor sport) built his own car, and a gentleman to boot. We have a suburb here in Perth named after him, adjacent to an old disused racetrack that he once competed on. Sadly, I know very little about Will Power. In Australia, according to the media that governs our lives, there are only four sports - Aussie rules football, soccer, rugby or cricket. Nothing else exists. Aussies could take out the first three places at the first Lunar 500 on the moon, and we would only see it on TV if someone crashed! So as I heard almost nothing about Will Power in Australia, I hear absolutely nothing about Will Power in the USA. For that matter, a guy from a tiny town in our southwest rural regions, was the team manager that WON the Indy 500 some time back. Team Green, I think. Another Aussie won the Baja 500 - all we hear is crickets and tumbleweeds! And shame on you for not giving me the choice of AC/DC! Cheers Alan
absmiami Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Ouch so then the A in AC/DC stands for Australia … properly shamed …
Mattilacken Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) Can’t wait for primer on that engine! Looks beautiful! Edited December 12, 2021 by Mattilacken
absmiami Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Thanks - may not paint these yet - hoping to have them cast first …. Got the badge and wire loom onto the left hand valve cover … there is very little depth to the letters on the surface of the valve cover- but if I can get the parts cast - I think I can apply another badge on top to make “taller” letters ??
absmiami Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 Working on the second magneto - the white parts are replacements/changes to the Reps and Mins GTO engine casting - and I cut the second one apart - because the magnetos are on offset posts - so there’s a right and left hand magneto - hard to explain …
absmiami Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 Just about done - but I’ll machine an aluminum ring that the plug wires will feed into …. That will be a challenge - as it will require cleaning up the other side of my workshop - huge challenge …
absmiami Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 The early Colombo 12s mostly used mounts at the back of the cyl head - that’s what these two holes are for …

absmiami Posted December 24, 2021 Author Posted December 24, 2021 I think I mentioned this - the UMI Barchetta kit had a bag of white metal castings done by Herb Deeks - the exhausts were cleaned up and shaped for casting - this will be tricky - the rubber mold casting may effect the shape - but it’s worth a shot …
absmiami Posted December 24, 2021 Author Posted December 24, 2021 The alternator is based on the Reps and Mins GTO casting - Shortened a bit and garnished with some straps and things - the straps are made from some squashed tin wire - rolled around short lengths of .015 Plastic rod ..
absmiami Posted December 24, 2021 Author Posted December 24, 2021 Now for the “casting call”. Hopefully have some resin castings later in the spring …. Meantime, let’s see …

absmiami Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 This is where i got stuck two years ago before i finished the Mad Mike Indy Ford DOHC engine - Mecum’s Indy auction features two great Indy cars - Andretti’s 65 Brawner Hawk - with this engine - and Gurney’s 69 wedge influenced Santa Ana Indy - great shots on the Mecum site of that Gurney stock block ! So maybe i should finish the darned DOHC Ford ?!?
absmiami Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 whilst the Ferrari engine is marinating - always great to find an obscure engine cutaway drawing, right ?? ...
absmiami Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 Back in the day - Sports Car Illustrated was known for featuring some great cutaway illustrations - this one - first done for Autocar (british pub) was by Victor Berris - I’ve seen many of his cutaways - but this is a new one to me …. Its the Mercedes 300SL engine …
absmiami Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 Edited with the Becassa phone app …. Cool. Now. Did Berris do the W196 engine for Autocar ?!
