While not a world beater in the least, that was a very interesting option and I can bet survivors are worth something these days. Interesting that you mention the 5-speed 260. I was working at a Chevrolet dealership at the time but knew nothing of the option from Oldsmobile. A couple we were frinds with liked our new Mont Carlo SS and not being able to afford one at the time waited a year and bought a Cutlass with the 260 and that is the only way I even knew of the 260's existence. They were disappointed in the performance or lack there off. Now just a couple of weeks ago I came across an E-Bay ad for just such a car, 260 V-8 with the 5-speed. This reminded me of once being told that it was more fun driving a car with very little power at it's maximum capabilities than driving say a Hellcat and trying to stay out of trouble with it.

I think the Cutlass was also available w/ a 5spd in '78-79 (downsized A-body). I recall seeing a magazine road test of one, had a manual without a console IIRC.
Trendsetta68 Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 Brings back the 80's era perfectly, great job!
NYLIBUD Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 I remember when these cars were all over the road.People were buying them left and right.I think my parents had a couple, of them, and their friends, as well.Very popular cars, that’s for sure..And you really did an excellent job.

I believe it was available not only in the Supreme body style (maybe as part of the Salon package?), but it was also available in the 442 in the ugly "humpback" fastback body style. About 15 years ago I stumbled onto one of those in a local Pick & Pull yard, and pulled the pedal/linkage/Z-bar assembly to resell. It was a very strangely optioned car with no center console.

Randy thank you , yes, these were the everyday cars that I grew up with , growing up in the 80's/90's it was always the these, not the performance models On 6/18/2019 at 3:51 AM, Dominik said: My thoughts. I remember these VERY well as they were a staple of a LOT of driveways in the '80's. Of course, I'm partial to the '73-'77 Colonnade cars as those were what I learned to drive in (a '77 Cutlass). You built yours pretty much how I'd do this car............stock as stone! Bill, I am just hard on my work, we all see things that we know we could done better, so you know how it is . My first car was also an ,84 brougham, with a navy interior and vinyl top, but mine was painted an off-white/cream. Hiwd yiu tackle the vinyl top? It looks great. JJ thank you , I think I did see that color combo while doing some research on the roof, it was a nice looking combo. For the landau top, I used Loctite Adhesive spray , it was a process , to get it to dry, I went over it with primer, on the spoon test it dried , on the model, it did not fully dry , but wasnt tacky . I would recommend going a different route. On 6/17/2019 at 1:19 PM, RomanII said: Your choice of wheels is PERFECT. They look just like the ever popular wire wheel covers used on Oldsmobiles. Hard to imagine that in less than 20 years after this Cutlass, Olds would be gone. Cutlasses were everywhere. Eighty-Eights were everywhere. Ninety-Eights were everywhere. That is what I had on mine, the wheel covers, you are right, I do remember seeing them everywhere growing up in the late 80's early 90's when I started paying attention to cars. I thought the Grand Prix was the best looking, followed by the Cutlass Chris thank you , I agree, that the GP and Cutlass were the better looking ones compared to the MC, the MC was just rather bland looking compared to them. to make you feel a bit old, this body styling came out about two years before I was born On 6/17/2019 at 6:22 AM, ewetwo said: Looks great! Matthew thank you , I fully agree, it really sucked if you had the V6 like I did, it would of been nice to have a bit more power from the factory in them. I love that GM body style and have owned 2 Regals and 2 Monte Carlo SS's. I've owned 2 Cutlass's, but they were "72 and "74. Craig thank you , there was just something about those old 80s luxury coupes. My brother had an 88 with the 307 in it and it was the slowest car ever. Made my 90 F150 seem like a performance car/truck. Thank you Jason, oh yeah, I had the V6 so, it was very SLOW. Those A/G Bodies from that era were delightful vehicles ; the Oldsmobile was the best . What did yours have under its bonnet ? 3.8 litre ? 5.0 litre Olds ? The 100 miles of vacuum lines and a full-complement of emissions equipment drained every last bit of power from those engines ----- but , man , were they smooth and luxurious cars ! I still have the first edition of the Revell H/O Cutlass ( 1983 model ? ) and am yet to dive into it . Other than the 80's Monogram Monte Carlo "inspiration" ( e.g. , moulded-in coolant overflow bottle , windscreen washer bottle , and other details ) it appears to be a nice --and truly welcomed-- kit . Again , great 'Gutlass' ! Thank you John, yeah, I have soft for this car, for the short time I owned, I really liked it, oh I had the V6 , so it really had no balls . The kit is decent , I really didnt even bother with the engine compartment outside of painting it black, I had some issues with the air cleaner not allowing the hood to close all the way so I just took off, hence why there is no engine photo either lol. To bad you don't have any pictures of the interior with all the work you did there. You called it "gutless" so I'm guessing you had the world beater 260 cu in V-8. David thank you, oh, I am just hard on my work, it pushes me to try reach that next level, yes, I am happy with it, I feel it could turned maybe a little bit better. Yeah, I just kind skipped the interior. On 6/16/2019 at 6:54 AM, Curt said: I like it! Curt thank you On 6/16/2019 at 6:17 AM, Classicgas said: I think it turned out quite nice. Cpt Tuttle Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 I have always liked the G-body and I think you have captured the spirit of an 80s stocker very well.
Faust Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Darn it! That's almost EXACTLY how I was going to build mine! Great minds, I guess. A very nice job, and it so totally captures the era. Always great to see a "civilian" car - not an unaffordable classic, muscle or supercar. rock on!
mangodart Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Very nice Oldsmobile, the perfect grocery getters
