65 F100 4wd Conversion

What would be a good way to convert this kit to 4wd? Saw another thread discussing it and it sounds like the 70 F100 would be a good start, but the wheels would be incorrect and there are no aftermarket options. Is there something that I could piece together from various kits?

I believe you must be referring to the '66 F 100 4x4. Yes, the 70 F 100 4x4 would be and excellent choice. The Flareside box would be the only box available at this time.  The '66 is practically the same truck as a '67-'72,  but with different sheet metal. However, the '65 F 100 4x4  has practically nothing in common with the 70 F 100 4x4 and little in common with the '66 F 100 4x4. '66 top photo, '65 bottom photo.

I was referring to the 65, but I could just make a utility bed for the 66 instead of buying 3 kits. I wanted to make a 4WD utility truck. Thanks for your help! Maybe I can cobble something together.

I'm going to do the same thing with my service box 65. I'm just going to use the 70 parts including the wheels and was not going to worry about accuracy with wheels and such. for my 1:1 65 i have after market wheels on it and steelies from a 75 f100 as well.

FYI - Except for the rear cab mount, the '65/'66 chassis is the same as the '69/'72 chassis just like the 1:1 trucks.

Would Fireballs F250 conversion be appropriate for making this 65 into an F250? Or maybe I’ll just get it anyways.

I have thought the same thing, just haven't had the time to mock it up as I have both the F-100 Utility Bed kit and a Fireball conversion kit.

I took this photo when i got the utility bed. It is the fireball kit and a 67-72. The 65/66 cab can fit with the fireball frame as well, I just didn't get a photo. Hope this is helpful.

I am planning to build the service truck as a '66 F-250 4x4 with Fireball's kit as well.

I have also, however, converted the flareside kit to 4x4 with the AMT '79 Ford 4x4 parts and everything fits great.

Worth noting is the following modifications are needed: the front crossmember needs to be thinned down to slot into place and the relief in the frame for the leaf springs needs to be filled as the 4x4 rear springs mount a little farther forward. The AMT wheel backs slot perfectly into the Moebius wheels and those wheels fit perfectly in the AMT tires!

Nice conversion! I'm sure it will be a popular modification for the '66, which was the first year for the factory shortbed 4x4 F 100. 61 thru '65 factory 4x4 F 100's  and 61 thru '66  factory 4x4  F 250's were all longbeds  with leaf springs at all 4 corners.

I have just bought a AMT 60 F-100 that will give me the correct bed for a 65 f250. I'm planning om building roadkills "tater-truck". I must probably use fireballs f250 conversion kit for wheels and axles.

I built a 60 Flareside a few years ago, I would post a pic if I knew how LOL. Bought the 60 model on eBay, the bed had already been removed and poorly shortened, so I decided to go with the step bed. Raided every parts box I had and made a pretty cool "modern-retro" 4x4 with big block FE power. Turned out pretty nice, very happy with it.

Did you take the bed from the old AMT 53 kit?
I do have a project (a stalled project that is) with the AMT 78/79 "dentside" that I am building in a very similar style as your 60 only in red with a flamejob.

The bed is from the Revell 56, had one lying around so I used it. Only modification I did to the bed was to lay down the bed rails, I just like them lying flat instead of angled. You might want to do that to yours, the 78-79 were the only years (I think) that had the bed rails flat instead of angled. And thanks for the comment!! Yours is coming along nicely!
