Profil 24 Quality question...

Anybody here built any 1/24 scale Profil 24 kits? If so, what was your impression of the casting quality, symmetry, scale fidelity, etc.? They're kind of expensive, and before I jump I'd like some input from folks with actual first-hand experience.

Which kit are you considering getting? ACME president Webers has the Aston Martin DB2, the shape of the body is not quite correct. However, I have the 1937 Alfa 2900B and 1927 Renault record car and both are good. If you ever show up at an ACME meeting, we could bring them along.

I got their Audi Quattro some time ago now, at least it has an engine.  For a resin kit, I guess it's better than average.  But have not built it, so can't tell you that part.  There are obvious differences with the Beemax kit, far as body goes.

So far I've only had time to do a cursory comparison with the Flintstone 550 Spyder, which has multiple issues of its own.

The Profil kit has the same wheelbase, which is as it should be, but the width is significantly narrower. I need to check some 1:1 dimensions.

The Profil kit also has symmetry issues, as in fender profiles are different from side to side. The resin is thick enough to sculpt these out however, appears to be good quality, and bubble-free.

One upside of the Profil kit (which some would consider a downside) is the fact that the open panels are made very slightly oversize, so they can be precisely fitted to the openings.

The little car also has a somewhat blobular engine, and a gearbox that doesn't look much like a real one, BUT the PE parts as well as the lights are gorgeous. Wheels and tires are pretty decent. Better engine and gearbox parts may end up being sourced from styrene kits.

Overall, potentially a spectacular model.

I'll shortly be comparing it to the FPP kit, which represents a '55-'56 Spyder, and should be very close dimensionally to my full-scale Beck 550 replica

There is a resin 356 engine on the german auction site that looks pretty decent if thats any help for you

Thanks, Pico. That looks far better shape-wise than the Flintstone version, and has the more common tail treatment.

I agree with ACE that the Johnson 550 is better than the Flintstone version.  Here is John Johnson (Teapot Graphics) 550 as built up.  Somewhere there was a discussion once about what the Flintstone resin 550 was based upon with the unusual rear deck but I can't find it at the moment.

Completed Profil24’s Jag D Type long nose last year. Resin quality was pretty good. Decals and PE were also decent.
