Joe Handley Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I may be in need of some Lowrider-ish narrow stripe whitewall tires to fit the 5 Spoke wheels from the AMT '63 Stingray Coupe. I've found that just the Pegasus tired don't fit and might otherwise just use the whole Astro Supreme style wheel and tire, but would like to keep it as "box stock" as possible, wheels included. Thanks!
espo Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Some of the "tuner" style kits have small tires and the AMT Corvair kits had them also. the problem is that most of the small diameter tires usually only fit small diameter wheels.

I thought about that too, but was concerned about the smaller rim diameter since the kit wheels look like they should be 15's. I did find one of the sets of Pegasus "Sovereign" wheels I had mentioned though! Think I'm going to throw them on real quick to see how they look.
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) In case you're interested, Some of the online hobby shops offer the Moebius '65 Plymouth Satellite tires. They're really nice "narrowish" early to mid 60s white walls. Model Roundup has them for $6.90 a set. I used a set on my '67 Ford Galaxie. They look period perfect to me. Steve Steve, that Galaxie is jaw dropping gorgeous !!! Tires are a perfect fit for it !!!
Joe Handley Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 Thanks Steven, I'll keep those in mind for other projects, turns out those Sovereigns w the shorter narrow white walls are going to be right on the ?
espo Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 I agree the Sovereigns are your best bet for the lowrider look. Don't recall seeing many Corvettes done in this manor, but I have seen a few 1:1's done that way years ago.
Joe Handley Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 I found a few when researching this idea, but no C2 Vettes, just C1, C3, and C4 that was built in Japan. The X-Sonic Corvette Show Car was supposedly the first car to use hydraulics for altitude adjustment......mainly as a way for the owner who was a teen or young adult at the time to keep a cop that liked to ticket him for anything he could find........altitude was a particular favorite though, to reduce the tickets he got on the car when it was still a street going custom!
Bucky Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Modelhaus has a selection of narrow stripe tires: https://www.modelhaustires.com/

randyc Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Not sure what might have them, but *sometimes* you can find a Franklin or Danbury mint parts car for cheap that will have nice wheels/tires. And a load of other spare parts for projects. I know some of the Corvettes have the twin stripe tires. Franklin's black 67 convertible has a most excellent set of tires and turbine wheels. Those are fairly cheap if you look long enough. I have bought several different cars for around $10 just for parts. Probably $20 by the time you figure in shipping. And no, I don't have one on hand now. I'm on like the 3rd one of those that have passed through my hands.
