Eshaver Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hey folks, saw a movie trairel on C N N Headline news last night where it showed some footage on the story of the guy who developed the intermittent wiper option Ford Supposedly ripped off. Im really interested in seeing this movie. Has any one seen the previews or the movie trailers ? it said that it would be in theaters October 3rd. Ed Shaver
LVZ2881 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I saw the trailer tonight..looks pretty interesting. looks like lots of 71-73 Mach 1's and Boss 351's in it...
george 53 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 ED, I remember when this story first came out about 25 or so years ago, Apperently furd DID steal this mans idea, and refused to pay him royalties, he sued an won, an they had to pay him X amount of PENNYS for every furd built with intermiten wipers since about 1963 or so. He ended up gettin a coupla million bucks from furd. It serves them right! Furds have always been junk! Howcum theres about 5 different big blocks and NONE of the parts interchange? or 2 different 302's with NO interchancheable parts? Thats one of the many reasons I'd NEVER have a furd.
Zoom Zoom Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 He ended up gettin a coupla million bucks from furd. It serves them right! He got much more than that. He ended up with over $10 million from Ford, and $18.7 million plus interest from Chrysler. And he may very well have been underpaid at those sums. He lost a similar suit with GM. Interesting story, will be cool to see how the movie portrays him and the industry...though if it's typical Hollyweird, I don't expect much, unless it's a documentary.
crispy Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 The movie is called "Flash of Genius" Her's a link to the movie trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2N9ta1Hmiw I plan on seeing it on DVD. I think the movie will be similar to Tucker. All the same it should be a good watch for the car buffs. Chris

Well, every Ford I have ever owned was a very good car. Please note that my Fords were all under $1000.00, yet they all gave great service when I owned them...well, except the intake manifold I had to replace on a 1983 Mercury Marquis wagon I had with the 3.8 litre V6....but that was indeed a ###### engine. The only other old cars that were as good were some Buicks I had and AMCs. The Mopars and Chevys...er...not so much. In fairness to Chevy, I've had my new one over a year now and it has had NO trouble.
RodBurNeR Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I have owned some of all brands. I honestly speak when i say the most reliable of the big 3 was the FORDS i had. here is a quick list.... 1962 Ford Fairlane <-----i was second owner with 53,000 original 1967 Ford Custom 500 <---bought with a blown engine and replaced myself with a HP 289 1966 Ford Fairlane <----- straight 6 ran like a top 1957 Chevy Bel Air <----327 from a vette ran good 1966 Ford Thunderbird <----can't remember what engine, didn't own it that long but was 67,000 orginal miles 2000 Ford Explorer <----bought brand new , took back cuz it guzzled gas 2001 Ford Ranger <----bought brand new , took back because the payments were killing me 1984 Ford Thunderbird <---did have probs with electrical system 1978 Dodge Diplomat<-----318 where do i start? plugged ports didn't allow it enough time to see what the other problems were. 1979 Dodge Diplomat <----318 was given to me cuz it puked oil and barely ran 1973 International Step side <---- 345? strongest and quickest truck i ever owned 1979 Olds Cutlass <----i built the car literally from a shell. all new everything, i should have wasted all that money on something better lol 1970 Chevy Impala <----350 that fowled plugs with oil , tranny slipped constantly even after rebuild and brakes failed me doing 45mph 1998 Nissan Ultima <----outran the cops LOL.... 1999 Ford Escort <----aside being one of the biggest wussies i drove, it was reliable 1998 Toyota Corrola <---bought new, traded in for 2000 explorer above, what a mistake 1995 Hyundai Scoupe <-----traded with the toyota towards the explorer, we really got screwed! 1984 Renault Encore <-----sensors didn't last long , had to have the heads planed twice because of warpage 1982 Chevy s10 <-----tranny went out, replaced engine , other than that it was cheap to drive 1994 Ford Taurus <----elecrtical problems, horrible suspension and break downs a lot 1989 Dodge Colt <-----one of the best little cars we had 1979 Ford Mustang Ghia <----great running car, busted ball joint is all i had prob with 2004 Ford Focus <-----wifes current car, love it 2005 Ford F150 <-----my truck, love it 1984 Nissan <---sounded like a jalopy, but it started no matter how cold and would smoke the tires through 3rd gear lol 1979 Chevy Chevette <-----first car i legally drove, ran great, acted like it was ready for take off when you hit 65mph 1999 Olds Alero <-----told wife to take it right back to the lot POS 2003 KIA Spectra <-----i kid you not, this car was fast and very nice i liked it! one of their high end cars i am 34 years old, about 97% of those cars i bought and sold before i was 25. i prefer ONE thing over any brand.....RELIABILITY , then price ....looks didn't matter on some of those as i am sure you know how ugly them Mopars were i had lol I will always prefer FORDS.....i don't care if something breaks on them.....that's what tools are made for
James Flowers Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) My first new truck was a Chevy and it was a lemon? I have tried Four other full size Chevys and two s-10's since then and everyone of them where junk. I will only by Ford trucks as I have had the best reliability with them. I have had at least a hundred cars and trucks over the years and the best has been Fords by far. I have kept a record of the cost of each one and what was spent on them. The Fords records show the least a mount of cost and problems . My wifes Venture van just puked the engine . The only thing I have found with Chevys is that they get away with a lot defects in there cars and trucks. GM is favored by our government and does not force them to recall there cars and truck as they due Ford and other brands. Just take the exploding gas tanks on there trucks never made them fix a one of them but made Ford fix theirs . All GM did was give you a coupon to buy a new truck not retrofit a fix for them. When you look around you will see that there are very few of those exploding Chevy trucks to be found. Wounder why that is ? Look and see how many old Fords are still on the road most of them. mikelo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I would be interested in watching it as I talked with an attorny about getting a patent on an idea I had and he told me this story. In his version though, the legal battle went on for something like 10 years, ford postphoning trials and legal red tape. When he finnally did win, he didn't get hardly anything after all the legal bills. And yes, he also said he lost to GM. Mike
