Maybe this is one piece of fakery that isn't so dumb after all. Personally, I find very few of the referenced fakery "dumb". It's all about style and what the consumer likes at the time. I don't have any issues with fake scoops, simulated wood grain, etc. Some of our most iconic cars have fake components that added a very nice styling touch. The '58 Impala just wouldn't be the same without the front fender port holes and rear quarter and roof vents. Steve
Bucky Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 We've had "leather grained" vinyl and plastic interior parts for a long time.
gtx6970 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Im thinking the op was having a bad day and needed to vent about something,,,,just didn't matter as to what

iamsuperdan Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Personally, the fake stuff doesn't bother me much. It's all about style. Additional vents, exhaust tips...it's all good. And I love woodgrain wagons. For some reason though, fake dash trim bugs me, and I can't explain why. I think there was just so much of it that looked so incredibly fake. Forgot one. My old Ram truck had fake hood scoops on the Sport hood, and a fake intake in the lower front bumper. All just styling.

Well...the original Cuda's and Challengers had fake scoops in their twin scoop hoods, too... I had a '74 Cuda with one of those hoods. The previous owners made those scoops real (meaning: they cut them out). The only "real" benefits those "real" scoops had were: 1) they let copious amounts of water into the engine bay. 2) once, we were having a tuning session, and briefly ran the car without an air cleaner. We had a backfire out of the carb, which, hand to heart- shot flames out of the scoops. That was one of maybe the 3 coolest things I have ever seen in my entire life!!!

The Ram Air Hood kit doesn't do much for performance though, and the AFE intakes do the same job for less. I went with an MBRP exhaust on this one. Sounded killer! Replaced it with a Ram Rebel and did the same mods. Enjoyed that truck even more.
