alan barton Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Seeing as how there have been so many of the MPC frames on here recently - Jawbreaker, Ramchargers etc, I thought I would add one more. This was once a Carl Casper Galloping Ghost from my teenage years. I still have the front bodywork waiting for a resurrection but sadly the chute back body disappeared years ago. The chassis is restored from my glue bombing efforts forty something years ago but otherwise stock MPC. I produced my own body by free-form carving a wooden mould for a stretched, chopped Topolino and then vacforming copies in 1mm white styrene. I have two others on the bench, one as a nineties fuel altered and another as a streamlined salt car. Obviously I did a fair bit of carving to fit this onto the MPC frame. I also scratchbuilt the interior tins. Hope you enjoy it! Cheers Alan
Bernard Kron Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Nice one, Richard! The MPC frame is my "weapon of choice" when I do FED subjects both because it's a legs-under designed which places the slicks in a particularly attractive positiona nd the approx. 160" wheelbase is ideal in its proportions. It's also well detailed with real round tubing unlike the Don Long 200+ inch wheelbase Ivo/TooMuch, etc. frame. I also have developed techniques to eliminate the quirky center lever steering gizmo. I did a Fiat coupe, myself, late last year on this frame. I like your more cab-forward, cut down body version. I'll have to try one at some point. Mine had a full roof and rear bodywork.
magicmustang Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Outstanding. Love those Competition Coupes.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Nice one. Pretty slick work on the vac-formed body shell.
alan barton Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 Glad you are enjoying it guys. I was very satisfied to be able to revive a long dead teenage model of mine to what you see here. Funny thing is, the mould I carved was never intended to go on an FED but I just had one of those penny drop moments and next minute it was working! Best thing was, it was a vacform that didn't pull down properly and would have been wasted but all the bad bits got cut off. I will see if I can get a few photos of the mould so that you can see where I started. Cheers Alan
drag racer 15 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 That looks very nice I’ve always liked the look of those chopped up fiat bodies on dragster frames
Hmann68 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Really well done! The Fiat body looks great. Nicely detailed build, and I like the color too. A super addition to our little MPC//Jawbreaker based collection ????

That is very impressive carving. Mine would look more like a block of wood. I really like your version of a competition coupe. Those little Fiat bodies are great material.
