Built a Gasser out of one of the short roof coupes and removed the back seat area. Just create a new floor and back wall. Maybe even a consol between the seats running all the way from front to the back wall also. That’s basically what I was thinking too, yes! Smooth it out and run a console right up the middle! Actually made a start on that since my last post...sliced the stuff out that I don’t need: And then started rebuilding it with sheet: Excuse how rough it looks here - I’ve just hacked the pieces out and taped them in place as I went. The floor needed a hump (to match one in the chassis) so I couldn’t use flat sheet for that...made it out of three pieces of sheet to get the curve I needed, and then I had the idea of having a little bit of the shape of the wheel arch showing through there so I sliced up some plastic spoons to make that little bubble that you can see in the top corner there...nothing super interesting but I’m pleased to have this roughly resembling an interior tub again! After I sliced it up I was like “oh no, what have I done” ? I’m just about to glue all the little pieces in place and let it set up overnight so I can smooth it out tomorrow ??
OldNYJim Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 Oh, and you might notice that the interior as a whole looks longer than it did - I removed about a scale 12 inches of parcel shelf so that the rear passengers could actually have legs and still be comfortable ?
espo Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I like the way your interior looks. The rear package shelf now looks more to scale now also. The rear wheel tubs showing adds some interest also.

Still moving on this one, slowly - stuck in an endless cycle of Bondoing, sanding and repriming trying to get it PERFECT...I’d LOVE to get some color on this this soon though... espo Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Just perceiver and don't give up. This will look amazing in the end.
slusher Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Your making progress! Keep up the good work!
OldNYJim Posted February 16, 2020 Author Posted February 16, 2020 Thanks fellas! Getting closer! I think I’m pretty much ready to lay come color on there, after a final round of clean up tomorrow when the paint’s all set up and shrunk down nice: Just realised I’ve done something on this EVERY day this year to get it this far...I hate to think how many hours this thing has in it considering it doesn’t look that much different to stock ??. From front to back though it’s had a new front tray, reshaped headlamp openings, a smoothed out hood, side chrome deleted, door handles removed, trunk hinges removed, rear deck reshaped, trunk lid reshaped, gas filler removed, Frenched rear license plate added, new rear pan and the windshield posts moved inwards and the windshield narrowed. That was a lot of stuff ??. More soon, hopefully with some paint, finally!
slusher Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Looks really great! Been enjoying following your work and progress...
espo Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 The body work is looking good. Some times with body modifications it's best when people look at your model and know that you've modified it but they just can't figure out where and what you did.

It’s really cool when something looks BETTER, but you’re not sure why! Some of the mods aren’t too subtle on this thing, granted, but there’s a bunch of little things that I’m pleased with too. Whilst I’m replying anyway...shot a little paint today! Needs more coats still, but I love how this color looked glinting in the sun on my apartment’s built-in paint drying device ? I can’t wait to see it with some clear over it! I’m thinking of using some Pearl-Ex to give it a little extra something too - but those sparkles are really eye catching even just after a few mist coats! IMG_6155.MP4
Impalow Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Very nice! Some clear should make that flake POP!
OldNYJim Posted February 20, 2020 Author Posted February 20, 2020 Thanks fellas! ? Shot a light mistcoat of clear on this today...I’m not really GOING for the final shine yet but it definitely added some depth to the color! I wanted to protect the paint before I do the next stages - Tamiya paint is pretty hardy anyway usually, but I didn’t want to chip a little off or something further down the line when I’m masking and messing with it so this is a good preventative step against that. More on the body once the paint dries in a couple of days and I can give it a quick polish to level it out! Meanwhile, just thinking about how to improve this front end...it’s going to be so low that I don’t really NEED to do much, but I’m going to give it a bunch of attention anyway: First thing I wanted to do was scratchbuild a steering setup, and then next I’m going to replace that sway bar at the front and figure out a steering box: More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
OldNYJim Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 Couple more little bits on this one this week...made an exhaust system: Drilled out some of the switches on the kit dash... ...(and deleted the ones that wouldn’t do anything if I was building this car for real, like the interior dome light switch), and picked a color for the wheels: I really need to start getting paint on this thing now - only nine weeks til NNL East, so I’m making an effort to work through all the little things that were STOPPING me getting some of the major components in paint already...I’m excited to get to the point of getting color on everything and actually see some finished parts! More soon!
OldNYJim Posted February 25, 2020 Author Posted February 25, 2020 No notable progress today - but I like the combination of these wheels with the body color! All the blue bits are going to get a Pearl-Ex-infused clear coat next...but there’s a BUNCH of other blue bits that I hadn’t painted until today...excited to get those done next so I can start building up some clear coats! More soon!
slusher Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 The wheels do look awesome with the body color!
PatW Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Superb so far ditto to above, the wheel colour is outstanding against the body colour!
OldNYJim Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Thanks fellas! Little update - got my pearl coat on! I’d always imagined that body color having a little subtle flip-flop, so I mixed up some Pearl Ex and shot it on the body today: And shot a coat of clear over it so I could see it with some gloss over it: I like it! It retains that dark blue that I liked in the low spots but as the light catches it it flips to a lighter blue and even a little bit of a silver or turquoise...just need to stop my wife brushing the cat right next to the wet paint like I just found her doing so that it doesn’t get a lot of hair in it ?? IMG_6569.MP4 More soon!
1930fordpickup Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 This looks nice, great color choice.

Once the clear had dried a week or so I hand-drew some flames in a kinda Larry Watson seaweed style, scanned them into my cutter software and then redrew them for the other side and scanned them again to cut masks. There wasn’t really any need to draw them a second time (I can just flip it in my mask-cutting software and cut a perfect copy) - but I figured a builder in the 60s would probably have laid these out by hand and there would be some differences from side to side so I did it the needlessly complicated way instead. I tried to get it similar enough from side to side that it didn’t look weird...but different enough that you’d be able to notice a couple of changes if you were observant ?♂️? Of course, if I was braver I would’ve just foiled the body, drawn them on there and cut them with a blade...but I wasn’t super excited about redoing all that base color if I didn’t like it so I cheated some there ?♂️?. First up, one of the drawn out versions that has been scanned then redrawn by my cutter so I can figure out if I got the sizes right before cutting the mask: Then, mask cut and applied to the body: Then a silver base, followed by candy yellow, orange and red: And then a little highlight of white at the front: Then after a couple of hours to let the candies set up and some nervous unmasking... Still got the hood and trunk to flame, but it’s a start! I think it’ll look cool with those yellow wheels and the tan interior/roof color I’m going with: More soon, soon as I’ve done more! Thanks bud! ❤️ Did the hood and trunk today: Next job on the body is to lay down a bunch of clear and then polish it out - got PLENTY to do yet but glad to have the body (almost) ready for clear!
