...Maybe some blame needs to go to the media???

Yup.

But here's a dose of truth: most aircraft crashes are the result of a chain of events leading up to the crash, and not a single solitary effup like some ditzy driver texting.

Anyone in the aviation community is aware of this. Anyone in the aviation community who's responsible will refrain from speculation (outside the community), because once the wrong information has been spread by a desperate-for-ratings media, and swallowed whole by the ignorant and the gullible and fools in general, it's dammed hard to call it back.

Having worked as TV news producer and reporter, I've never understood or appreciated the "rush" to be the first with information when the facts are still unclear, especially in radio and internet where news is more immediate. Who cares? By tomorrow, when so many more facts are in, nobody will care if your station was first with thin and speculative preliminary info.

It's one thing to break a story to inform the public that something happened (Kobe's helicopter crashed, he's dead). It's another to fill dead space with gossip.

I was under the impression that that’s what today’s news broadcasts sole purpose was...........

Talking about a watched news reports and believing it does not make someone ignorant.

No, but it can make you mis/malinformed which can be even worse than complete ignorance.

I don't know why people get so offended by the word "ignorant".

The definition of ignorant isn't the same as "stupid"

"Ignorant" simply means "lacking knowledge".

The vast majority of "news" watchers are largely lacking knowledge about aviation.

That makes them "ignorant" concerning aviation.

Sadly, much of what's presented as "fact" by mainstream news, more about sensationalism driving ratings than actual journalism...journalism that strives to get things right...is complete and utter BS. It's a case of the blind leading the blind, in effect, and why much of the country is so confused today.

PS: One of the absolute best sources of factual information concerning all things aviation is the Juan Browne YouTube channel posted by Kurt, above. The guy is a high-time airline pilot, ex-military with combat experience, and heavily involved in general aviation (small airplanes) as well. He never goes off half-cocked, treats aircraft accidents with the gravity they deserve, and makes damm sure to get his facts straight before he opens his mouth. He thoroughly understands the physics and engineering that makes planes fly, all the systems inside and outside aircraft, and the functioning of the FAA, ground control, etc. In short, he is a real "expert", not some guy who once went to an airport and now pontificates from his vast pool of nonexistent knowledge for some idiot "news" channel.

Yup, also very good coverage of the Boeing 737MAX debacle (You won't believe how twisted the MEDIA have dealt with this one) as well as

cause and effect of those California wild fires last year. He also has some fun with his channel, Reno short take off and land drag races being one.

PS, remember when every civil aircraft incident in the news was referred to as being an Piper Cub? things haven't changed that much.

As an aircraft mechanic, I can tell you all the people involved with this aircraft over the last few months are sitting on pins. I have worked on a helicopter, and signed the 337 sending it into service, that crashed and killed the pilot. It was operator error in  my case, and there was no investigation into the work we performed at all. Simple operator error that should not have happened. Sometimes these pilots, and even the maintenance crews are pressured to get another flight in, or get the aircraft back in the air. We have converted helicopter that make about $3500 for a 15 minute flight. Even with expenses that could be over $8K an hour. There is pressure to get it in the air, making money.

Prayers for the Bryant family (even now, awhile later, they still need it), and for the families of everyone involved. They will find out what happened. They almost always do.
