Oldmopars Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I was in the Air Force from 1993-2007 with a short time in the Guard also. During that time I was an Aircraft Crew Chief. I mostly worked on the planes, C17A, C141B. During this time one of the things we were required to do was De-ice the planes during the winter when it was icy or had snowed. In 1988 Landoll got the contract to build the De-icer trucks. They used the C600 as the base for them. By 1993 ever De-icer the Air Force had was a Landoll C600. I spent many many hours in the cab driving around from plane to plane as a guy in the bucket sprayed the de-icing fluids on the planes. Now I want to build on in scale. All the research I have tells me that the engine used in them was a Detroit 8.2L NA. This was a 4 stroke non-turbo, non-blown engine. They were not a good engine, but it was what they had in them. There are non in kit form. Any idea what might be close? Maybe the Cat 1160? Second, where can I get the tires used? They were very chunky looking 11.00-20. See pictures below. I could just use the kit tires, but I always remember how bad these rode, part of the memory.
Fat Brian Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 There are some omnidirectional military style tires in some construction kits that might work, the Paystar dump and mixer kits have them. For the engine I might start with the Cat from the Louisville kit and scratch some more generic looking valve covers. What transmission did they use?

I know I can find that in a few kits, or in resin.
Fat Brian Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 The Louisville has a medium duty auto and the AMT K100 has the heavy duty one.
Oldmopars Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Looks like I need to buy the Louisville truck and the C600 City truck and do some parts swapping.
gotnitro? Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 I have a bunch of new paystar tires if ya need em

leafsprings Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I would add the 6 spoke front wheels would catapult this to a C 800. Ford literature from the era lists the C 800 model with a 8.2 Detroit and the C 8000 model with a 3208 Cat. Post '74 trucks came with wider front fender also.
Oldmopars Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 Fantastic, thanks for the info. I did not know about the wider fenders. It seems I may have a spare cab to work with, I could trim the fenders off of one and add to the other. Or I may save the extra cab and just try to add in a section. I will see when they get here. Anyone know of a source for 6 spoke wheels?
Fat Brian Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 The Autocar dump truck has six spoke fronts.
