Reuhkapelti2 Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) In 2017 Drag Week a Finnish team drove 1967 Plymouth Vip twin turbo, and I built a 1:25 model of that giant car. This year 2020 partly the same crew will bring 1987 Buick GNX to that event, and my goal is to make a 1:25 model of it. I have now the engine under construction, and I made the wheels and DOT slicks too. I'm waiting the postman to deliver me the GNX body shell from a friendly co-modeller. The gearbox will be cut off to be replaced with a scratch built one. Also the oil pan will be changed. Edited February 25, 2020 by Reuhkapelti2
Reuhkapelti2 Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Needs a little le bit of cutting. All the inner fenders and the fire wall will be removed. The body shell needs paint stripping.
Ctmodeler Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH is the whole motor gonna put under the hood ? Who's turbos are those ? I like em
Mattilacken Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Moi! Nice work there! engine looks good! Nice work on the wheels! Gonna be a sweet ride when done! BTW do you have pictures of the actual car?
Reuhkapelti2 Posted February 28, 2020 Author Posted February 28, 2020 Thanks everybody. Yes the whole engine is gonna sit there, but ofcourse the hood and the engine bay will have some modifications. All of the engine parts, incl. the turbos and the intake, are scratch built by me. Just the block is from a Nascar Chevelle, a SBC. The aircleaners are casted by a co-modeller. Just put "Blacklist Buick" on the google photo search, and there's plenty of pics of that Finnish street beast (mostly with the old engine, with no turbos yet, with NOS system equipped)
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Some progress here. Made the transmission, it's a Power Glide. The rear tires are still too small, I will try to make them bigger.
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 I made the rear tires bigger. The other tire is the one that was under Buick earlier. Quite a difference.
Mattilacken Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) Looking good! Tires and wheels look realy good! Dou you want a set of topfuel wheels and tires? I have two sets laying in my PB and thought you might have better use of them. ITs from one of these kits https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-monogram-85-7651-parts-america-top-fuel-dragster--209922 , Maby you want one of the decal sets as well for tire stickers? Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) Hej Anton! Thanks for the comment. Well I surely wouldn't say no to that wheel and tire offer. I will put pm to you. Edited March 3, 2020 by Reuhkapelti2
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 Two racing seats on the way. Scratch built Evergreen plastic.
Mattilacken Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Looks sweet! Good scratch building skills you have!
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 Thanks for your kind words. I'm not keen on the 3d printing of parts, I rather use a saw and a file to create something that doesn't yet excist. Maybe the parts are not always so accurate, but I really like that job. Now I have the rear end nearly done. I think they gonna use the four link in the real Buick, so I have to wait for more pics of it. At this time I have no bright idea how to make the rear suspension, but that will be sorted out later. Also the wheelie bars will be made, as Buick tends to make wild wheel stands even with the previous engine.
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 (edited) The JAZ seats got a light padding, the steering wheel was moved backwards, and the engine starts to find it's place. The turbos may need to adjust lower/ more back, to get them sit under the hood completely. Not sure yet how this goes with the real Buick, have to wait and see. Edited March 5, 2020 by Reuhkapelti2
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 I got the center console sort of done, I heard they try to save the original dash as much as possible in the real Buick, but there's a panel inside the car so the transmission can be reached from there. It makes things difficult to get everything to sit nicely. I made the shifter too. I'm not sure yet, how it's gonna be planted there, now it just sits on a piece of tube.
1930fordpickup Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 ?? Off to a great start. only a few months until drag week.
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 Thanks a lot Andy, the real Buick crew will have some busy time too ahead in order to get the car done and tested well. The hood needed a hump so I made one.
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 9, 2020 Author Posted March 9, 2020 Thanks Mattilacken! Just trying to replicate a very killer looking street beast from Finland! And this led to the fact, that my self made valve covers started to look too small. The real Buick has Brodix alu heads and those are big. So I cut the covers off and made a new pair, bigger and wider. I think they are good enough now. Then I ripped the turbos off, they need some handling too. The roll cage is now painted semigloss black, the car will have glossy black paint.
slusher Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Your project I very interesting like Pat said! Fantastic work so far friend!
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 10, 2020 Author Posted March 10, 2020 Thanks everybody! I made a new pair of turbos, bigger and better. Also they need to be similar, the old ones were twisting to the opposite directions, if you know what I mean. Like mirror image?
Reuhkapelti2 Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 Go fast go BIG! Those turbos are way too big to fit under the hood.
Mattilacken Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 That’s epic big! “ I have turbos! floors it, Wait for it, Wait for it, wait for it. BRAAAAAAP” hehe
