johnny rocket Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) This is my first post as i have newly discovered modeling and this is my first build since 1980 and I was only 10 years old at that time. So be honest as i want to improve my skills but easy on me as I am so new to building model kits. My first attempt is a 1971 chevelle that I helped build, travel with and pit crew for many years. I literally grew up on the fender of this tribute replica of my uncles chevelle Unpredictable. I purchased the kit at a local model show and it was on, the hunt for the right scoop and decals to make this replica. I will let the process pics tell the story and I can’t wait to move on to my dads drag car for my next project. Hopefully with your input each one will get better. The kid with the blond hair... that’s me. Edited March 11, 2020 by johnny rocket
Flynlo Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Nice model! BTW: the real car shown is a '71...or at least it has a '71 grill and turn signals.
Snake45 Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Very interesting project! Just out of curiosity, did you pay $155 for the kit, or am I misunderstanding something?
jokar124 Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Fantastic job! Can you tell us how you reproduced the "Unpredictable" graphics?
johnny rocket Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 Thanks everyone for the compliments, I did not pay $155 and the decals were made by bedlam creations from a picture.

Roadrunner Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Cool idea. While I have no real cars to model from my own past, I do have at least two cars to do as tributes to two of my favorite car models from my youth, both of which are unfortunately long gone now.
Nazz Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Good start. Nice decals. I will be interested in how you are going to change the grill and signal lights to look like a '71. I need to build one of these myself out of a '72.
