OldTrucker Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 My son called this morning to tell us he and our oldest son had possibly been exposed to the corona virus by a guy they had worked with on Friday. Saturday my son and his daughter stopped by and later our oldest came by to pick up cookies his mom had baked for him visited us and later their other brother and his family had stopped in and visited. The whole work crew my sons were working with had to go home and the builder had to lock up the house they were doing trim work in until it could be cleaned. Turns out after the big boss of their company told the guy he needed to provide doctors reports to him before they could let him come back after quarantine the guys story started to change and by the end of the conversation he claimed it was all a misunderstanding with what his wife had told him and while the lady his wife worked with had been tested and found negative his wife was quarantined and tested, but for the flu, not corona!!! Turns out he was trying to get a few paid weeks off through the Aflac insurance from work! My wife had COPD and heart issues and it scared the you know what out of us all thinking she might have been exposed! I figured it was several degrees of separation between the person tested and my wife but with no real information on just how exactly this could be transmitted it does make one worry! The boss is looking into firing the guy but his lawyer told him to tread lightly so he doesn't get sued in the end.
vamach1 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Glad everyone is okay but sadly this only adds to the paranoia that anytime someone coughs people are going to run away. We will look back at his in a few months and hopefully learn some valuable lessons from the facts and how people cope with uncertainty.
gui_tarzan Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 My son and one of his co-workers did a sound gig in the Cleveland area a few weeks ago. Apparently the Cavs had been at this location and they played someone the weekend before that had a player (now two I guess) that tested positive for CV19. So... my son and his co-worker were sent home immediately after they found out and told to self-confine for two weeks. They were going to be paid for it, until a few days ago. The entire staff, here in the USA, England and Australia were all laid off yesterday until the end of April when the company will re-visit the status. Fortunately, they will be able to get unemployment and the company is going to keep their health insurance going and is paying the part the employees would have paid from their paychecks so they won't lose their insurance while they're laid off. Hopefully by then this will be under control and they can go back to work. So far my son hasn't shown any symptoms, hopefully they didn't catch it but he's healthy and young so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

I have been amazed at the number of businesses that have stepped up to help their employees during this mess! Kind of renews my faith in humanity somewhat! I hope it keeps up!
NYLIBUD Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I spoke to my pharmacist today at CVS.She is a really nice Indian woman. She told me to take some simple precautions, and not too panic.I suffer from ptsd,so sometimes I blow things out of proportion. She was very reassuring and I had to thank her just coming into work. She explained that they must remain open,no matter how bad things might get. That definitely made me feel better.
OldTrucker Posted March 24, 2020 Author Posted March 24, 2020 Our Kroger store had a sign up yesterday telling people if they have been running a temp or have a cough to please go to the Pharmacy drive up window and give them your list and they will do the shopping for you. The cashiers and baggers and I suppose the rest who are working there all volunteered to keep coming in many working the entire 7am to 9PM hours if needed! Most say they just aren't going to let worrying get them down! I'm the only one that is going out of the house now and I make sure everything is kept as sterile as possible for the wife's sake. If it was to get me, well I guess I owe one seeing I've cheated the reaper twice already! She is right! Don't let it get you down!
Tom Geiger Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Pennsylvania has beer package stores that are separate from liquor stores. The liquor and wine stores are state owned and run, (like going to motor vehicle) and are currently all closed. I went to the beer store yesterday and they were open but not letting people in the store. There was a table across the door and the clerk would take your order, and bring it there. He took my credit card, which I didn’t have to sign or use my pin. I got two cases of Yeungling Lager, which should last us a few weeks! Strange times indeed.
