Scott8950 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 I found it while going through an old parts box and im not exactly sure about it. It appears to be a 67 because of no marker lights. The rear light panel is different from all the other barracuda kits I've seen. The door handles were sanded off and a front air dam of some kind was added. I have a 68 barracuda body for comparison. Thanks for any info
SCRWDRVR Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) I think thats the killer cuda, I'm pretty sure thats the one that has that back but I could be wrong Edited March 26, 2020 by SCRWDRVR
SCRWDRVR Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Nope I'm wrong, I just found a set of instruction for the killer cuda and the back is like your reference kit...

Scott8950 Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 i think its a 67, it has no side marker lights.
SCRWDRVR Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 67 has the C shaped tail light I believe 68 has the small tails ad 69 the large, the side markers could have been removed?
Snake45 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) It's definitely not a '69. I have a distressed '68 promo molded in red. I hadn't noticed it before but the taillights seem to be molded as part of the body, and there are small clear backup lights just like the holes in your mystery body. Somewhere I have an original AMT '67 and I'm pretty sure that one has separate taillights. Lack of side marker lights means nothing. They're apparently been sanded off like your door handles. (In fact, I think I can see the "ghost" of one on your left quarter.) I vote your mystery body is an MPC '68. Edited March 26, 2020 by Snake45

The other body in the pic is a mpc 68 so i dont believe thats it. Here is another pic the 68 is on top.
Muncie Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 The top body with the peak on the hood is a 1969. The 1967 and 1968 did not have that feature. I believe yours is a 1968 that has been modified. The 1968 MPC kit had fake exhaust trim detail aft of the door and ahead of the rear tires on the rocker panel molding. Instructions here for the MPC 1969 Barracuda and Killer 'Cuda (it's a 1969) https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/plymouth/1961-1970/ hope this helps .
Snake45 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) Your body on top is a '69. You can tell from the shape of the grille openings, and also the bump on the nose center. It's probably from the Killer Cuda kit ('80s reissue). Your '69 body has incorrect '68 type side marker lights. (They corrected them later to the right '69 type.) I know this for a fact because just yesterday I finished up the resto/rescue of a "survivor" one that's been in my possession since the early '90s. Your mystery body is a '68. Scott8950 Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 Thanks for the info guys, greatly appreciated.. I stumbled across these in an old parts box and was curious.
Snake45 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 If you have the hood and grille, you could restore this '68 using a commonly available '69 reissue as a parts donor. Even if you couldn't get it all the way back to factory stock, you could build it as one of the many colorful SS/B Hemi Cuda drag cars. It's a nice piece!

Snake45 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I think at least two different resincasters offer '68 grilles. They probably have hoods, too. Definitely worth trying to save.

In 1/1 the hood off the 75 Dart Sport will fit on the Barracuda.....Worth a try in 1/25th scale.....

Mark Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 A '67 kit body will have the lower half of the grille surrounds (including the center) as a separate part that glues to the body. '68 and '69 have them molded as part of the body.
