Hey, Fellas.... I'm thinking of getting an AMT 1/16 '57 Thunderbird. It's my understanding that there are some custom parts in this kit...... What exactly would those parts be? and Would the custom parts be in the issue that was released in 1989? I've found one on the Bay of E for a good price, and just want to be sure I want it before buying......

Thanks! and any examples you have of the kit, please feel free to post them.....

If memory serves, the '57 Bird had slotted mags and some engine bits as custom parts. Every issue of the kit has had the same custom parts, so you should be good (ask the seller for pictures of the windshield frame, because they tend to be crushed in the box). I may have to get a new reissue in order to rebuild my '55 Bird.

I built one many years ago and the only thing extra I can remember were a set of mag Wheels and maybe 70 series tires.

Yea, tires and wheels are the only "custom" parts I remember in those kits. They also came with choice of plain valve covers, or the factory optional finned ones. I remember AMT's 1/16 '55 Thunderbird having '56 Mercury station wagon taillights as a custom option. Again, other than tires and wheels, it was similar to their big '57.

The 1/16 '57 Thunderbird is supposed to be reissued later this year. I sure hope so. It's been a long time since we last saw the kit. Though the one I would really love to see would be the '55. No word on that one ever coming back.

If that 1/16 scale '57 T-Bird is making a comeback and if Round 2 is seeing this..............PLEASE PUT THE KIT IN A STURDY BOX!!

EVERY time I see one of these for sale on the 'Bay, the windshield frame is warped beyond belief or snapped off completely! That has a LOT to do with the flimsy boxes they were put in and it's a MAJOR turnoff! I built one years ago and it would be nice to have this one again to go with the couple '55's I have.

I hope you're correct as I would like to build this one again. I'm not a 1/16 builder but I like the "Baby Bird's" and the 1/24 & 1/25's just don't get it for me.
