Bainford Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 (edited) Does anyone know of a place that sells Model Master Metalizer paint in Canada? Or, any US sellers that will ship the stuff to Canada? Any help is appreciated. Cheers Edited May 8, 2020 by Bainford
Plowboy Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 I haven't been able to find it for a while. I only used the stainless steel. I picked up a can from Dupli Color. Should last a very long time. I haven't used it yet to see how it works/looks. But, I will be soon.
64Comet404 Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Try contacting The Hobby Centre out of Ottawa (www.hobcen.com). They have a good selection of paints, and are open for mail order. Hope this helps in your search.
Dave G. Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Model Master solvent paints are gone as far I know ( Rustoleum stopped production last year). I'm intending to go with AK Interactive Xtreme metal paints as I need metal finish in place of MM Metalizer. Right now I'm ok. .
gman Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 What colours are you after? I know a hobby shop on the we(s)t coast that still has certain shades of Model Master Metalizer in-stock, but you'd have to call and see if they would be willing to ship...provided they have what you are after.
Bainford Posted May 11, 2020 Author Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) Worth a shot. Do you have a name and location? My most wanted is Aluminum Plate Buffing Metalizer. I’d pick up several bottles of it if I could find someone who will ship it. Titanium, magnesium, and burnt iron are others. The stuff generally hasn’t been available in Canada for over ten years, but occasionally you come across a shop thats gets some in. I contacted Hobby Centre as mentioned above (thank you) but have yet to hear back. Just trying to find some before it’s gone. Edited May 11, 2020 by Bainford

I have been going there since the 80's (when his father ran the shop). I was in the shop yesterday, and spied several bottles of metalizer in the rack- about 60% occupied. https://www.burnabyhobbies.net/contact-us https://www.hotrod.com/articles/16042-1931-ford-model-a-coupe/ ^^ Dave's ride Edited May 11, 2020 by gman
gman Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I bought up a good supply years ago when a local hobby shop was going out of business, before those paints first became scarce in Canada. I got a spray can of Aluminum Plate buffing metalizer south of the border in Washington State a while back (likely old stock). While there hasn't been too much buzz on them, I believe Gunze Sangyo makes some lacquer buffing metal colours as well- http://www.mr-hobby.com/en/itemDetail.php?iId=137 I only have one hobby shop relatively nearby that carries the Mr. Color lacquer line, and those are on my list to try. What has put me off is minimal English on the paint rack and bottles, so I know what I am getting and have an idea of how to use them. I used the Humbrol Metalcote tins many years ago, but when Testor's launched their Metalizer series of paints I never looked back as they gave superior results to Humbrol's metal shades. It is a shame Testors Metalizers are discontinued.
Don Sikora II Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Mr Metal Color is great stuff, and I’ve been using it since the late 1980s or so. Not that easy to find in the US now, but I’d try it if you can source it easily.

The bright silver and even the chrome would be suited for an aluminum look (natural vs polished).
