It's not so much back to the bench as back to posting. PRO has been steady but slow I'm catching up on the posts now
Ian McLaren Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 Rea body mount structure built, and rear right height and body fore and aft position set. Next up front body support structure .
Codi Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) A fiddly exercise I'm sure Ian but you it was worth it no doubt. For me it is always amazing how much time it consumes to accomplish what seems pretty simple, but it's never "simple". The entire car is shaping up very well. cheers, tim Edited December 26, 2020 by Codi

AmericanMuscleFan Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 One thing is certain, you do not take shortcuts to make your components and that is reflected in your build. All the ingredients come together for a high caliber build and I love it! Keep doing the good work Ian!!!

I'm trying to push my limits on this one, and learning to work with brass is one of those limits. Edited December 26, 2020 by Ian McLaren
Ian McLaren Posted December 26, 2020 Author Posted December 26, 2020 Basic front body support structure completed (enough to start body tin). Body mounted and supported as per the actual car. Braces back to fire wall front body latch and body side support still to be added.
Ian McLaren Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Car sitting on it's tube supports for the first time, kit clutch peddle, first and second upgrade replacement. Front body structure with body latch mechanism installed. I am re stripping the paint off the entire structure as it did not stick at all . Going to try a self etching primer this time as opposed to the Tamiya Grey. Detail shots of the body latch rod assy. Not sure the spring is going to be heavy enough. Now that the ride height is permanently set by proper supports front and rear I'm am starting on the body tin work. Custom built aluminum injector stacks have been ordered from Jeff Ferris and once they arrive I can finish the intake manifold and continue on with the engine.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Great stuff here Ian, nice attention to detail, your fabrication is first class! ?
Ian McLaren Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 Starting tin work and firewall on the body. Building frame work to support the tin around the chassis, All of the pieces are fabricated out of .100" Evergreen L sections. Pieces shown next to chassis, roughed out firewall with mid plate flange in place. Chassis ow sits on the front and back structures as per the actual car and the midplate flange also just touches for a stable assembly.
Ian McLaren Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 The inner tin support frame sitting on the roughed out upper tin panel lots of sanding and fitting before they can be assembled
AmericanMuscleFan Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 It's superb Ian! You obviously have great skills and a real attention to detail! Keep doing the good work, it's remarkable my friend! ?
Ian McLaren Posted January 24, 2021 Author Posted January 24, 2021 Shaping upper tin panel to inner body contours, Side rails only fitted and checking alignment with the chassis, Fitting process chassis to upper tin panel
Ian McLaren Posted January 24, 2021 Author Posted January 24, 2021 Firewall with fire windows cut out and framed, Upper tin framework and outer support structure added, tin and firewall test fitting body, tin, and chassis assembled for the first time Front and rear structures and fire wall all touching equally, the assemble is centered and straight. Success!
gasser59 Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Outstanding fit Ian. I'm sure this was a tedious task but you've mastered it.
Ian McLaren Posted January 27, 2021 Author Posted January 27, 2021 Thankyou Brad, the weird shape of the panel body in the rear does make thus on especially challenging.
Ian McLaren Posted January 29, 2021 Author Posted January 29, 2021 This is how the real car looked, Test fit of injector, stacks have not been fully secured or aligned but the body is too flat in this area, corrected body contour
