Peterbilt359 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Hi all. I just received a passche h single action airbrush kit from my lovely wife who encouraged me to get back into model building. What’s yalls opinion on this model for someone like me who is getting into airbrushing? Mike
89AKurt Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I've used the same unit since my dad gave me one about 40 years ago. I got one of their double-action units, hated cleaning it, haven't used it since. Here is my setup: air compressor, old fire extinguisher for a holding tank, filter/regulator, plugged into switched outlet. I clean the needle and cup immediately, don't let sit in the thinner/cleaner. Don't swish the needle much, can bend the tip and wreck it.

I’m impressed especially with the empty fire extinguisher you fashioned for a holding tank. Kudos to you my friend. Can you guide me On how to use the empty fire extinguisher and parts I’ll need to make one myself? This by far the best diy setup I’ve seen and believe me I’ve watched a ton of YouTube tutorials on this very setup. Mike
Dave G. Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 The H is fine especially on model cars, several guys here who use that exclusively. I have that and my trust very old Badger 200 I use. Either will paint a car body just fine and much more.
Snake45 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Paasche H is just about perfect for model car work. Only if you're gonna get into murals or other fine, fancy work would you ever need anything else.
Miatatom Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 FYI, there are 3 different tips for the H. #1, #2 and #3 with 1 being the smallest and 3 being the largest.

I've always used #1, but the new tip has a larger hole, don't see the # on it. Works just as well, can't tell much difference. 9 hours ago, Peterbilt359 said: Holy mother of pearl what a setup. Mike I think the first step is getting the fire extinguisher, go from there, figure out the pipe thread size. The pressure regulator is important, once I figured out what PSI works, have not changed it. Wish that compressor was quieter, sounds like it's going to fly apart, but keeps churning along. Mounted onto a plywood base, so it can be moved as a unit, carpet under it so it has some cushion for the jackhammer. Stickers are optional.

WRONG!!!!!!!! I'm surprised that I wasn't caught with my mistake. The three sizes aren't 1, 2 and 3, they're 1, 3 and 5. Number one is .45 mm, number 3 is .64 mm and number 5 is 1.06 mm. I've attached a pic of all three with the two different air caps (pictured on the right). You can identify each by the number of rings machined into each piece. The aircap on the right with no rings is used with the number 1 and 3 needle and tip. The number 5 aircap is for the number 5 needle and tip. I use the #5 most with pressure set to 20-25 pounds depending on what I'm shooting. I usually use the H for chassis and interior work and the Procon Boy PS-290 for bodies..

Yes I started to post on Paasche's ring method of identifying the tips and needles yesterday and must have left the page without submitting it. Good info !!! Edited May 18, 2020 by Dave G.

You might also want to remember to get a water trap of some kind for your set up. I got the one from Paasche that you can splice into the hose: https://www.paascheairbrush.com/product/mt/ Have fun!
