Jonathan Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Thank you for the comments regarding how to build a '74 Ford pickup. I"ve got the AMT kit and I've ordered some parts from MAD (Kris Morgan) and am looking forward to using those parts. Now .... what if I wanted to also build a 1984 Ford Pickup? Fleetside (is that the right term? Non-step side; whatever Ford called those). Where would be the best place to start? thanks!
mikemodeler Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Revell has a 80 Ford Step side kit out right now that would be a start. It is a 4wd and IIRC there aren't a lot of kits of the 80 -86 series F pickups to choose from. There were some kits that had a fleetside bed (you are correct!) but have been long out of production so might be a bit expensive to find. Search eBay, you might get lucky. Revell/Monogram did offer a 91 F-250 long bed extended cab that could be used with some modifications if you are up for it.

Can-Con Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 If it were me ,,, I'd get an MPC '80/'81 Bronco and bash it with an AMT '94 Lightling pickup that's currently available. I'd graft the grille/bumper wheel openings and tail lights from the Bronco onto the lightning pickup. The Bronco will also give you the older interior.
Plowboy Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Fords are called Stylesides. I've been wanting to build an '83 myself as I owned one. My plan is to use the Monogram F-250,150 and Bronco. They're all1/24 scale.
Jonathan Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Styleside - I should have looked that up Does anyone do any resin for the Revell / Monogram '80 that's currently out? thanks!
SCRWDRVR Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I've always wanted a 80-86 F150 glue kit as I own a 86 F150 1:1 but have only ever saw a stepside until seeing the Snap kit in Casey's post. I did at one point take a 84ish Bronco kit and cut the body and put the back of the cab from a 94 on it to make the 86 truck but the bed from 86 to 94 is different. The contour over the wheel well changed, different tail gate and the tail lights are different as well.
Jonathan Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Yeah ... this seems like an era of truck that would be better served by the kit manufacturers.
