disconovaman Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 I wanted to share my Rehab Bace Guitar Project that was left for junk in my brother's barn... I didn't even know the Off-Topic Lounge exsisted until a week ago. (I've been a member for about 5 years). This realization and inspiration by another member lead me to want this project finished so here it is hanging on my wall. I simply disassembled it, stripped it back to the original metalflake blue, (which was the toughest part). Trying to protect the original finsh took patience. I polished the wood grain, keys, and I touched up some battle scares with some Testors Sapphire blue, not a perfect match but I can live with it. I've included some before photos, Thanks for looking. Have a great day.? P.S. Now all I need is an amplifier and teach myself the theme to Seinfeild! ???
iamsuperdan Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Excellent work! One of the many hobbies I don't have time for is rebuilding guitars.
Dragline Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 That certainly made a difference. I'll bet it plays better as well. Here is my current state of gear. My Martin D18 is not in the pic since I posted this to a Metal guitar player forum. But you get the idea. Some of this stuff I've owned for 3 decades or more.
OldTrucker Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Great save! I have rehabbed quite a few over the years. A bass for my oldest son that he pulled out of a dumpster, an old 70's Harmony that the original owner was going to smash up on stage in their show. Traded him a newer cheap Harmony Strat knock off for it. One of my Twin sons has that one and there were several others including a Domino bass I rebuilt for a guy that was the bassist in the band my twin sons were in at the time. That one was a wiring nightmare! Right now I have a kit bass guitar waiting to be built.

My brother, when he was in highschool...(in 1989) built a Gibson Explorer style guitar in wood shop. Each student had the opportunity to choose their own projects. He designed it like the Explorer... I always liked that design. 5 hours ago, OldTrucker said: Great save! I have rehabbed quite a few over the years Thanks... I've had a couple Harmonys myself... One of my favorite guitars, it wasn't as popular but I always like the sound of it... it's a 1965 Kay Electric Special... My Cousin still has it... Thanks again for the nice comments from everyone...

Is that a Jackson Warrior hiding there behind the Explorer? i'm typically a Superstrat guy, and not big on pointy guitars, but those have always been on my list.
LL3 Model Worx Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Sweet bass save! I recently added a new to my stable much to my wife's disliking. A new Charvel Pro-mod in "Shell pink". I have an original Charvel 375 deluxe in desert crackle that I love and an original model 2 that is getting some airbrush work done at the moment. Please excuse the mess... the Hobby room has been in a state of "reorganization" for a few months. I did get a new floor rack finally, just haven't found a good place to put it yet!
Dragline Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I really want one of those San Dimas Charvels in a big way and that shell pink is somehow manly enough. I bet that thing is fierce. You have good eye there Dan. It's the WRXMG Warrior. So it sits just under USA made Jackson's and above the J32 and other Asian made Jackson's. It's a great guitar that suffered from a Floyd Rose Special. I did the upgrades to it and now it's a proper thrash machine.

Should have just upgraded and kept it.
Dragline Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 The X Series were decent guitars for the money. Like you said, an upgrade here and there and they are gig worthy instruments.
Bugatti Fan Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Back in the Sixties over here in the UK there was a company named Burns who made really nice solid guitars. Most of the rock groups at the time started abandoning them for Fenders and Gibsons from the USA as they were perceived to be more trendy at the time. I played drums at the time, and stuck to my Premier set that I just loved, but the 2 guitarists in my group exchanged their Hofner Verithin and Framus Bass for a Gibson Les Paul and an Epiphone Bass. Oddly enough I was flicking TV channels one evening recently to see 50 to 60 years on a Burns Vibra Tone being played by a lead guitarist in a current pop group.
iamsuperdan Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Well, if this is becoming a gear thread... Here are my triplets. The one in the middle I bought new in 1989. Now quite modified, but still plays like a dream. The one of the left is a mint condish, bone stock case queen I found about 4 years ago. The one on the right I found on Kijiji a year or so ago. It was rough, but I got it for a steal. Over the past few weeks I've been getting it back to fighting form. Repaired/replaced most of the electronics, rebuilt and blocked the bridge, installed a new nut, and reglued the fretboard, and gave it a good cleaning and setup. I've only ever seen three of these in the wild. And they're all mine! Must find more...
disconovaman Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 Wow! those are some Awesome guitars! A quick reminder to everyone...
