Plowboy Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I built this around five years ago. I started it to enter the "Sleeperball CBP". But, in the end, I didn't want to attempt making a set of wheel covers to go over the Watanabes. So, I left it out. It's the Revell kit from way back. Besides the wheels and tires, it was actually a pretty nice little kit and something way out of my normal. Most of the modifications were under the hood. I made a header to connect to the turbo, FI intake and an intercooler. I lowered it as much as possible. Then, I just added a few details, paint and done! It was a fun little kit and I always meant to build a few more FWD sub-compacts. But, never got around to it. Thanx for checking it out!
dublin boy Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Nice, looks a bit like the RS Turbo version we got in Europe. Well apart from the front end!
afx Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I had a '85 RS Turbo back in the day - fun car. Nice build - the wheels/tires are a nice upgrade to what comes in the kit.
dublin boy Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Never knew there was a US version JC, any pics?
afx Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I don't have any pictures Shay, the car was part of a previous marriage.
dublin boy Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 you mean it was a "bitsa"? I had a Mk1 Fiesta that was made up from bits and pieces of other cars. It went well for a 1300 cc lol
dublin boy Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 This implies that you were living over here somewhere in a big Castle married to a Countess JC! The mind boggles. lol
Funkychiken Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 It's a cool car back in the day, and Shay says, it's just like the ones we used to have over here a few decades back with the exception of the missing grille. Cool build!
Plowboy Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Thanx for the comments guys, I appreciate it! The front end has always bugged me being closed off as it is. I did a little research on it and discovered that Revell also made an XR-3. Looks like they took that kit, changed the hood, added the BBS wheels, rubber tires and called it a street machine. I'm thinking about carving a slot in the hood to improve the looks. If I mess up the paint, I'll just paint it satin or flat black.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Looks good Roger, one of the first I've seen built-up. I didn't realise there was another version of the kit with this front end, makes it look more like the North American Escort, which apparently shared little but the name with the Euro-spec model. It would appear that as well as filling in the grille they've changed the headlights and indicators to more sloping units, compare it with this brush-painted glue bomb that I have: This particular example had the Kamei X1 bodykit as well as XR3 parts, the original builder used a bit of mixture.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 This is the one I have, still with its box: Mine is a long, long way down the list for restoration.
