David G. Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) I like the first seat option, I think the high back buckets is the way to go. I like your color choice too. The world could always use a few more pink cars. David G. Edited September 8, 2020 by David G. typo
doorsovdoon Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 Yes, I like them too, they're the ones that come with the kit and likely the ones I'll use. I also like the ones in the last photo, the seat pattern is a closer match to the rear seats.
doorsovdoon Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) While the paint is curing on the car and other bits, I'm detailing the little toys that come with the kit. I love this stuff! Edited September 9, 2020 by doorsovdoon

That is a VERY similar hood scoop to what I had. While I thought if I ever built it again, I would attempt to recreate what I built in the 70s, but I think I would retain the clean, non scoop look of the box art. BUT..this is YOUR project, build what moves you! ?

doorsovdoon Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 Yeah, the clean look of the hood would probably look best. I'm going to paint the scoop off the car and place it on the hood dry just to see which I like best. If I'm feeling it I'll glue it on permanently. I can't remember what kit it came from, I think maybe the '66 Mercury Park Lane. I'm going to paint both pairs of seats and see which looks the best. I'm also torn between the wire wheels and the stock version, the Mag wheels look good too! Lol, too much choice in one box!
doorsovdoon Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 oh, I won't need to cut out the stock console, the kit comes with a custom version, I completely missed it first time round.
doorsovdoon Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 Seeing as it's a custom build I'm going with the custom engine. It looks great! Even as big as it is, it looks like it will fit under the hood without cutting a hole in it. If not, it's just a matter of taking off the blower and placing the stock parts on the block, if it hits the hood just a bit I'll have no excuse then not to use the hood scoop:)
doorsovdoon Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 Not too much left to do now. I painted up both custom seats, the ones in the kit which are the highbacks, and the buckets I found in my spares tin. Looking at them in the interior I'm liking the highbacks. I got the engine finished up today and it's a beast of an engine! Looks like it'll fit fine under the hood, though I may still use the hood scoop.
doorsovdoon Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 I didn't know until yesterday while having a good look through this kit that it comes with a set of front quarter bumpers. I'll dry fit them using blu-tack and see if I prefer the clean look or the added bling:)
doorsovdoon Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 While detailing the custom dash, I found the steering shaft location is way too far over causing the steering wheel to touch the door card. The rake of the dashboard also causes the steering to sit too low, so I had no choice but to move the steering over and angle it up a bit, which is fine cos you can't see that far under the dash when it's in the car.
Spottedlaurel Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 What's the bottle thing?! Is that an extra set of gauges?

It's a fuel millage test bottle, it comes with the kit, also the box of gauges next to it. They were in the kit, as I'm doing the custom version I decided to include them.

chris chabre Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 I may need to buy it just for the custom pieces
doorsovdoon Posted September 11, 2020 Author Posted September 11, 2020 Went to give the car a final coat of paint and got a massive paint reaction. I have no idea why it happened, it just did. The paint was actually fine, it didn't really need another coat but I was thinking when I polish the car I'll probably rub through in places like I always do, so best give it one more layer of paint I thought. There was cissing everywhere and it wrinkled up along all the high points. Aaaaaaaaaagghghghghghghhg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always at the last hurdle with me, story of my f*** ing life!
doorsovdoon Posted September 11, 2020 Author Posted September 11, 2020 Right then, round two! Stripped the paint but I've run out of the pink I was using. I've ordered more but will take a couple of days to post out. I think I know what caused the paint to react. There was a fly buzzing around the room last night and I used a can of fly spray to get rid of it, I'm guessing the particles from the mist settled on the body and that's what caused the paint to react. ah well, onward and upward.
OldNYJim Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 What brand of paint was that pink color?

Spottedlaurel Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Maybe worth trying it with the clear on something else first? Just in case it's some incompatibility, and not the fly spray......

Just in case it's some incompatibility, and not the fly spray...... I didn't use clear, I just give another coat of the same paint. I think it was the fly spray, I could see tiny oily specks on the hood and other parts when holding them up to the light. I've cleaned everything off that I could see with a cotton bud so shouldn't have any problems now. If I use clear, I'll do the hood in case there is an issue with compatibility. I don't mind stripping the hood!
doorsovdoon Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Body is in primer... again! I've had to re attach and fill the custom panel seams as they came loose when stripping the paint.
doorsovdoon Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 There are some cool decals in this kit! I won't be using most of these but I do like the Road Test Vehicle decals and have a great idea for them!
