Also, if there is some roughness in the color coat will the clear coat give it some correction?? That’s what makes this clear so likeable for me... you can stack up layer after layer on top of the paint and even out some texturing and other imperfections in the paint, then if you have imperfections in the clearcoat the wet sanding and polishing can take a lot of that out. However, don’t expect miracles. When I sprayed the clear I only had to allow around 20 minutes between coats. I used the air from the airbrush to flash dry the wettest spots and then almost immediately I could spray back over it until I achieved the coverage I wanted. I live in a very dry climate though so you may have to adjust your dry times a little bit.
TransAmMike Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 I just wonder why there isn't a spot on the display rack for the 5620 tho.

If it was at Hobby Lobby you could ask them to special order you a bottle. I know they do that sometimes. Our Hobby Lobby orders every week, yours probably does too
Dave G. Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 My 1/16 Model A fenders with Tamiya black acrylic just out of the dehydrator after shooting the black. So this is straight from the airbrush, no polishing no anything but taking a picture. It's over Stynylrez black primer, shot 30 minutes before the black went on, that's the dark grey/black between the fenders. Shot them dried them everything all in took less than an hour. Just fwiw. This photo is considerably down graded from compression for email as well. The fenders are not wet, that's dry black paint, no clear coat, not polished..

I’ve seen you tube videos where people were able to achieve those same results with the Createx... I just can’t seem to achieve it myself. I wonder if air pressure has anything to do with it?
TransAmMike Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 Wow Dave, that looks great, and no clear. Wow.
TransAmMike Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 Josh, you mentioned youdid a gold GT40. Any chance you could send a picture?? Would like to see the gold.

I'd be aiming for lower viscosity "and or" more flow out. Then air pressure. But I don't use Createx, so far be it from me without getting hands on to say how that is accomplished with Createx. I will say, I'm one to think and work outside the box sometimes.

Dave G. Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 That gold in terms of tone on the GT40 above ( which is turning out very nice) would probably be fairly close to the Oldsmobile gold but the Olds never had metal flake finish. It was a very fine metallic and a natural non clear coated finish as well..
TransAmMike Posted November 15, 2020 Author Posted November 15, 2020 Very nice Josh, and what clear is that?? And Don, you are right about the metallic and thats why I like the pearl look.

It looks very similar to this (below)... The color tone that is. But in terms of metallic, I don’t know how you would get the flake small enough to look this way on 1/24. I’m also not trying for that level of exactness, but just the right amount to be satisfying Edited November 15, 2020 by Venom Further clarification about color

Venom Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Mike, look at the Wheel Arch Molding Foiling Tutorial... I believe it’s an Oldsmobile in the pics, and it is done in a particular gold.

Plus anytime you shoot closer up shots it magnifies things like metallic fleck. Your GT 40 looks very nice ( pretty sure I said that already). J fwiw though, in case you're interested for a future build, Zero Paints makes the GT 40 gold pictured above.
TransAmMike Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 So Josh, the gold GT40 you sent a picture of (the last picture) is a real one right?? And Dave, tomorrow I'm hoping to do some more experimenting with the mixture but still have no clear. Thanks for asking.
TransAmMike Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Josh, I checked out the "wheel arch moulding" tutorial. The gold on that car is the darker gold that model year. The GT40 gold is darn close though.

Also you might want to take a look at Tamiya X-12 gold. Just sayin Edited November 16, 2020 by Dave G.
TransAmMike Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Dave, yes that Tamiya x-12 sure does look close to the right color.

Thanks for the compliment David, and thanks for the heads up on Zero Paints, I’ll keep them in mind. I actually think I saw that paint one day on the web, they call it Honey Gold
