The Junkman Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I've a question that I've never seen addressed. Is it just me or is the front end/grill of this kit a bit too tall/blunt/forward? That's the way it appears. How has anyone else addressed this? Maybe its just me
Zoom Zoom Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 It's not just you. It's off a bit, headlights are a bit low, overall height a bit too tall. But it's a lot better than the Revell '69 Mach I front end which just looks sad because the outer headlamps are so much lower than the ones in the grille (they should be on the same level) that the entire front of the car looks like it's frowning.
Jairus Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) Bob is right. The eyebrow for the outer headlight pods on the 69... and the twin-slot scoops on the 70 should be horizontally straight from the peak of the hood all the way around to the fender. Both the 70 and 69 kit piece droop, with the 69 being worse. The 70 grill is also too flush and should have been recessed a bit more. The 69 grill headlights are also too far inboard in my opinion. I used to own a beautiful '69 coupe and I felt that the nose of that car was the most beautiful thing going down the road. My favorite thing... washing that car! Edited November 13, 2008 by Jairus
MrObsessive Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Jairus, if you remember.............you did a post about this very thing. It was a good thread-------that's one thing that's bugged me about that kit for years and in the reissue, they did nothing to fix it! Click here to see folks........it's pretty good.

I owned a 69 coupe and a 69 fastback and just loved them both. They were both Beautiful to me also best looking Mustangs of all too Me. I have been looking for another one. The models are a little off in the headlight area .
Rob Hall Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 The '69 is my favorite 1:1 vintage Mustang. I have my '69 Sportsroof (351W 4bbl, automatic) which my Dad bought new back then stored in a barn w/ my '87 GT, which I've had since new. Love the styling...
The Junkman Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 So...maybe shave it down 1/16th and shim it back 1/16th at the bottom?

My 69 Sportroof had a 351 Windsor 4 barrel, 4 speed with traction lock rear end. The coupe had a 302 two barrel and automatic.
BigGary Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 The situation with the grill on the '70 Mustang kit was mentioned in a review of that kit in the May/June MCM which I bought last Tuesday because its the only one the LHS had left. That sucks! There has been like 3 issues since then and he didn't have any others. Either he's not getting them or he's selling out. ??? I guess I'll spring for the subscription in the future or order from back order dept. Gary
Zoom Zoom Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 If anyone has deep pockets, AMT made very correct annuals (very rare, and the AMT '69 reissued any time in the last 20 years is an MPC and it's not a good model) of the '69 and '70 Mach I's, and Missing Link Resin Casters repops them in resin. They're 1/25 scale and proportionally are excellent. Perhaps combining w/some of the guts from the Revell '69 Mach I will yield a very nice Mach I.
