Hey, guys! I'm working on the 1/16 Trans Am from MPC..... I would like to find a (possibly wired?) distributor and a Quadrajet carburetor for it. Having these two parts would inspire me to further detail this kit. Is there anywhere that would have these ready made? or Maybe another kit that would have these parts?

Thanks for any help!

I was unable to find BOP Quadrajet in 1/16 scale anywhere, Fireball Modelworks has them in 1/24-1/25 scale. (may be able to scale them up but you would need to check)

Holley and Weber were available from Shapeways in 1/16 scale.

Holley 4bbl was an option on TA's (maybe from dealerships), so you could get one of those from a Shapeways Shop.

no joy on the required GM HEI distributor either.

additionally, after spending 4 hours scanning the interwebs, didn't find anyone 3d printing any pontiac engines in any scale (accurate or not).

there are BOP type carbs and automatic trans on the market in 1/24 and smaller but nothing for the larger scales.

Thanks for all the research you've done, Mike! The more I look at this kit, the less detailed it is..... I may just have to get some materials and try to scratch build a distributor. The carb is hidden for the most part by the shaker.....

Thanks again.....

the HEI dist is easy to replicate. using the existing dist.

the Holley carb in the kit would look okay with a little detailing.

the pontiac kit engine problems would only be noticeable to pontiac enthusiasts.

you should be able to turn out something decent using kit parts unless you want an auto-trans in it.

I have a partially started 10th anniversary version of the kit, so I know what you will be going through.

I will be getting some aftermarket snowflakes for mine when I get around to it, never really liked the 10th anniversary style wheels, even on the 1:1 cars.

Mike, man, I found out about this site called Ted's Modeling Marketplace.... They have a carb in 1/16 for like $3, along with all size lines and hoses! Will most def be ordering some stuff for the T/A.... Just thought I would pass the word so you could check it out yourself.......

thanks for the update, I checked out the site and while I didn't find any pontiac engines, HEI dist or quadrajet carbs, the wires, hoses and hardware will be useful in detailing what you already have.

I feel your pain on this one. I have this very kit and it is lacking in details. I guess for $40 what do you expect? I also looked at Shapeways and found the tree of 5 carbs, but no Q-Jet. I may just order them and use the Holley. I am going to work on the distributor, scratch build one. If it turns out OK, I will let you know and make you one. I will just cast them.

I have wondered if you were to contract someone that sells 1:24/1:25 stuff on Shapeways, if they could scale it up and re-list it.

With the issues I have with my hands, I have purchased several 1:16 and 1:8 scale kits. It would be nice to have some detail parts to go with them.

Let me know if you find any other 1:16 scale part to help these R2 kits we now have.

I just found these:

Now, I know they are not the Q-Jet, but they are very close. For these kits it may be close enough for me. The kit carb is bad, these are not perfect, but a huge improvement.

Very true.  It seem like the older larger scale kits (MPC and AMT) are just larger molds of the same parts which makes the lack of detail and realism even more pronounced.  They probably figured an air cleaner would cover the carb anyway.

I like to add details, but in 1:25 it is really hard. 1:16 and 1:8 makes it a lot easier for my bad hands

The TDR Carter AFB carb is nice, but a Holley 4bbl would be more appropriate, and can be found in 1/16 scale (Carter carbs rarely found their way onto GM engines).

I wish Fireball Modelworks would consider scaling up some of his fantastic carbs.

Here's a resin Holley from Ted's modeling marketplace..... It looks a little better than the kit one, but still needs linkage...

Thought I might get one.... The transmission in the kit is a 4-speed, which is fine with me as the 1:1s had a manual behind the 400 engine.

Thanks for the replies, guys!
