Jonathan Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I think this is from the Waverider release, but maybe it is from the later 3-n-1 release. I have several of the earlier issues of the Monogram Chevrolet S10, all stored in one box. I don't recall exactly how or where I acquired them. My original goal was to build an extended cab to replicate my Dad's 1988 4.3. Hopefully, I can do that one day. Anyway, rooting through the box, I've started putting one together. Here is the kit so far - body painted two-tone red/silver - it'll be covered in a gloss clear closer to final assembly - hopefully Tamiya Dull Red will shine up with some gloss. Interior is done - box stock, with the exception of some flocking added to represent carpet. Show here just kind of tacked together. Tamiya paints and washes throughout. Please excuse my high quality phone pictures ...
Jonathan Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Thanks. I hope the Dull Red looks less ... hmmm ... poo with a coat of gloss ... I might should have used a brighter red.
Jonathan Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 (edited) Coat of gloss, polished. Looks better. I think. In the 2nd and 3rd pics, you can see where I dropped the cab. It bounced behind my bench and now I have a little dust/scratches to deal with. sigh.... Edited November 23, 2020 by Jonathan
iamsuperdan Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Looking good so far! Back in the day, one of my bosses had a long box S10 in the same colours.
slusher Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Color looks great, real nice interior also...
Jonathan Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Decisions .... I'm leaning with the Ralley Wheels, as opposed to the AMT S10/Sonoma wheels ...
mikemodeler Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Can't go wrong with the Rally wheels. The AMT 86 El Camino has a nice set of factory wheels that were like the ones on the S-10s.
espo Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Since you like the Rally Wheels maybe some 8" from a Corvette kit would be a consideration. They work on the real S-10.

They're from an AMT kit, but I don't know which one - they were a PIF from the Spotlight Hobbies message board some time back. Quick mockup. Pardon the clutter ... Edited December 1, 2020 by Jonathan

Pardon the clutter ... The Rally's look great on this as they did on the 1:1's. You mention this is just a mockup but I notice how the cab and the bed look like they're bowed in the middle. I like the red & silver tutone as it is a little different from what is usually seen.
Jonathan Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 I think I got the bow worked out. With this particular kit (again, an older issue), the rear wall of the cab was cracked. The bed sides have little channels that line up with slots between the back of the cab and the rear wall of the cab. With the rear wall significantly cracked, this was pulling the bed downward. I glued the damaged rear wall back together, shimmed with some strip plastic, and here's where we are. Still needs wheels attached, some details remain.
KWT Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 This is coming together nicely. I like those rallys on it.
slusher Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I do agree those rallys look great and the truck ..
KWT Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Looks awesome. Maybe I missed it, but how did you do the black trim and what did you use?

Black trim around the side windows and the bumpers is good ol' Tamiya semi-gloss black. I masked using Tamiya tape for the tight areas, and Frog tape (the green stuff) for the larger areas.
Jonathan Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 One more minor update before some final tweaks and I can call it done. Needs tail lights, decals ...
Jonathan Posted December 27, 2020 Author Posted December 27, 2020 Finished a few days ago - pics in the Under Glass section. Thanks for looking!
