Danno Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Time for that age-old classic from Les Nessman and the WKRP crew! Free turkeys for everyone!
Russell C Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 "........... as God as my witness ..... I thought turkeys could fly." ?

I'm used to seeing birds no larger than pigeons all year long, but in one of my Colorado summer vacations, I was hiking up a narrow path in the woods and was startled to see a huge wild turkey on the path. I figured it would walk off into the bushes to get away from me, but instead it launched into the air and easily sailed down the hillside and out of the rather small clearing in the forest just as easily as any robin or bluejay would. First and only time so far that I've seen something that big take off.
Rodent Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 They are all over the place here. They really don't "fly". They fly to roost in trees and within a couple of flaps of the wings they are on your roof, stomping around and pooping. You will never see one soaring like other large birds.
Goose1957 Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Yea, I've seen plenty of wild ones fly into trees around here. The farm raised ones, not so much. They tend to hit the ground like sacks of wet cement. I love that episode of WKRP! Have to watch it every year and it still cracks me up. The seriousness of Les's reporting is so good. A true TV classic. Jeff
espo Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 Wild Turkeys do indeed fly, my wife managed to hit one a few years ago as it was taking off from the side of the road. She hit it at headlight level on her GMC Jimmy. The impact broke all of the mounting points for the driver's side composite headlight, then the body flew across the hood and took out the radio antenna on the right front fender.
Mike999 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 One of my favorite "WKRP" lines: "I will not be lectured on the meaning of life by a man wearing a white belt!"
