Gramps46 Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Jeff, Good to hear from you! Your contributions to ACME and MRRN were greatly appreciated. I just noticed the Teapot resin, my built up above, doesn't have the bump on the rear. Gary
Kraftwerker Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Gary, Thanks for the recognition. There were two things in play with John's product. Subterfuge. The ACME resin body distribution was off the record. John intended to sell his kits mainstream. So, we did not want to thumb our nose at the original Japanese product maker. Even though it was extremely doubtful they could have sold more product outside of Japan (huge price and language hurdles). So, John made some things "different" to say it was not an outright copy. Normalizing. That bump is like a typical engine access panel. The baseline 500A design required flipping the headrest up and then flipping the whole rear bodywork back to get to the engine. Some owner had another opening added to give ease of access. This is very unique. As stated in the posts above, the "normal" 550A did not have such. To make his subject more appealing, John eliminated the bump/access.
Gramps46 Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Thank you very much for the background, Jeff. Any idea what the museum 550A serial number was.
Kraftwerker Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Gary, I've no clue. ? Internet sleuths could probably find it.
Allan31 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Jeff Edmondson, MRRN, Teapot Graphics, wow. All names I grew up with years ago. I still have every issue of MRRN in a slip case somewhere. We moved into our new digs in November and have yet to unpack that box. I'm pretty sure I have all of John's kits, most of the UMi kits, some built, most not yet. I'm glad I found this place. 2
250 Testa Rossa Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 The Teapot kit is really hard to find.

VRM Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Sorry for my phone photos...these are hard to photo...the middle Boxster and left is gold foil or metallic gold, all else to the right is chrome foil.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 (edited) Wow, never knew there was an entity called "Teapot"! Shoulda done some Pontiacs - that way, you'd have a Tempest in a... . . I'll just show myself out. Edited April 13, 2024 by Chuck Kourouklis too many typos to tolerate 1
250 Testa Rossa Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I will have to start on mine soon. Planning to do the Dean Spyder
