I was considering trying this as a different take on stripes or flames over red paint but wanted to get some input before committing to buying the paint and doing the masking.  If you've tried it, can you post pics?

I've used it on big rig and light truck engines to represent oil leaks and gunk build up for years.  But that's not  you why you asked.

Yeah, for some reason the idea of "candy black" paint as a secondary color kinda intrigues me.  If I see results I like, I'll order the paint and give it a shot myself.

I've had the same idea from time to time. I wonder if the color would be a deep, metallic black, like the finish on a highly polished, high quality "blued" firearm.

I bought some in a spray can, to use on windows (as apparently intended).  I sprayed it on so light and so thin, yet is just puddled around the edges and was inconsistent across a relative flat piece of clear plastic.

Be careful with this stuff, it is really really thin - or at least MY can was that way.

I tried the smoke Tamiya on windows.  Didn't look too great with as you say, puddling on the edges.

It would depend on the base colour. Over red as OP wants it’ll be a gloss dark red. To get a metallic effect, the base coat would have to be a metallic silver etc. I hope that helps.
