Hello All,

with Scale auto mag Gone now and the availability of the first 35 years of the Mag on DVD, is there any plans for the final issues from 2014 to present to be added to the DVD or maybe a Digital Update?

anyone know?

Thanks

That would probably be a question for those at Scale Auto, Fine Scale Modeler or their publishers. We have nothing to do with them and wouldn't know what their intentions are.

They did issue a follow-up DVD with the next five years on it. I'm sure you can find it on the Kalmbach website.... TIM

The 5 year collection was advertised for sale in the June 2020 issue of Scale Auto so I assume those  2014-2018 issues and 5 years of Contest Cars were scanned and the DVD made but when I contacted Fine Scale I was told only the first 30 years was available. If the scans were indeed made it seems ridiculous and a big waste that a DVD would not be made available because I am sure there would be sales. The only positive thing I can say about the situation is that there is a good Mark Jones article in the current FSM.

Unlike the previous 35 year DVD, the recent 5 year update IS NOT searchable.  You have to scroll through each issue.

AJ is correct. And there was some other difference I can't recall exactly....maybe that it did not copy the contents to my hard drive meaning that I had to dig out the DVD each time I wanted to use it???

Not entirely clear on the above discussion, but they did produce the 5 year update as I bought a copy for myself.  I would be very surprised if it is not available somewhere on the Kalmbach website.....TIM

This was their reply on Nov 10 2020 - Thank you for contacting Fine Scale Modeler Magazine. This item is out of stock and has been discontinued. Unfortunately, the only Scale Auto DVD ROM we have available is the "Scale Auto: First 35 Years DVD ROM".

Phil....OK, thanks for the follow-up note.  Very disappointing news.  I may bring it up with the Models Brand Editor next time we converse....TIM

I will definitely buy the DVD if it is made available  and spread the news when and if it is available. Thanks Tim

I've got the first 35 year DVD loaded on my IMac running OS Mojave 10.14.6 and all is fine but  its not compatible with later Mac OS.

Kalmbach's Hobby Store does advise of this issue in their advert.

As a current Mac OS user that’s disappointing - what format are the magazines on the disc actually in?  I figured they’d be PDFs like their regular downloadable content
