kpnuts Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Hi all this was donated to me by a friend(he was doing it as a van) I have other plans for it, it will be a very rare custom made version (the guys at work will know where I'm going with it as we have the actual vehicle in the workshop)
kpnuts Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 More work done to this, that is the basic shape of the vehicle a few doors to add and lots of details to the bed to add.
kpnuts Posted February 22, 2021 Author Posted February 22, 2021 Hi all this is what I'm aiming for, it has a very unusuall way of loading cars (which i am ambitiously aiming to depict)
cobraman Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Cool ! I never seen anything like that ? Were there many built do you know ?
kpnuts Posted February 23, 2021 Author Posted February 23, 2021 Just this one (there were a few similar but just this one as it is) I need to make lots of louvers for the samba bus conversion so heres my simple answer, glue bade to base at half the thickness of a cocktail stick run that through blade then turn the resulting halves 180° and run through aginn all I have to do now is round the ends off and I have my louvres.
Bullybeef Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Right after I saw the pic of the bed extension I had an idea of where you were going with this build, I’m excited to see this play out as it looks awesome! one question on the toothpicks, you mention louvers but do you mean ribs, like for the floor of the bed?
kpnuts Posted February 24, 2021 Author Posted February 24, 2021 Hopefully all will be clear on the next update
GRiN Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 How much longer is that beast than a standard single cab?
kpnuts Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 Approx 3 meters(just over) Tried making the louvers out of quartered cocktail sticks, not very successful I measured the louvers and they are 20mm wide the quarterd cocktail sticks are 1 1/4 mm so way out of scale. I have another idea up my sleeve let's see how that works.
Casey Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) Is Plastruct, Evergreen (both brand names), or another similar brand of styrene strip available in the UK? I think a quarter round strip of the right thickness would work well if available: Edited February 25, 2021 by Casey

kpnuts Posted February 27, 2021 Author Posted February 27, 2021 Here is one of the cars it usually carries (it also carries a 904 a 910 and another rsr cafe mexicano)
David G. Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 I'm very interested to see how this one works out. You look to be off to a great start. David G.
kpnuts Posted March 19, 2021 Author Posted March 19, 2021 Added some of the pipework, the heater ducting and started scratchbuilding the new brake servo we've added.
kpnuts Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 Well this arrived for the samba bus conversion, fair bit of bodywork modification needed (doing it as the cafe mexicano version) made a start on the modifications. The kit itself looks really good all the molding is very crisp and sharp and detail looks well defined.
